Pomegranate’s powerful antioxidants have rocketed it to new fame as science discovers that this fruit may help slow aging, prevent heart disease and cancer, benefit skin health, particularly aging, photo-damaged skin, and even reduce the risk for Alzheimer’s disease. Pomegranate’s antioxidants are also being studied in connection with hypertension, diabetes, and osteoarthritis with promising results in the literature. This should prompt us to include pomegranate in our daily diet to benefit from this superfruit’s healthful properties and boost our antioxidant profile to beat the oxidative stresses we encounter every day
Pomegranate nutritional profile
Rich in potent antioxidant phytochemicals, particularly the ellagitannins, punicalagins and punical and anthocyanins (the phytochemicals responsible for the rich red color), a single pomegranate contains three times the antioxidants of red wine and tea
- Cardiovascular benefits
Pomegranate supports the cardiovascular system. Studies show that it:
- May prevent the formation of oxidized LDL.
- Can reduce plaque build-up by 30% in patients with atherosclerosis.
- May reduce blood pressure. May improve blood flow to the heart, lowering risk of heart attack and stroke.
- May improve stress-induced myocardial ischemia in patients who have coronary heart disease.
- Cancer preventive potential
Pomegranate may have potential for inhibiting prostate and other cancers. A study of men with prostate cancer found that 8 ounces of pomegranate juice daily slowed PSA doubling time significantly. PSA is an index of prostate cell proliferation. Experimentally induced colon tumors in animals were reduced by pomegranate extract. Pomegranate suppresses the activity of nuclear factor-kappa beta (NF-kB), a significant contributor to cancer and age-related disease and COX-2, an inflammatory enzyme associated with colon cancer risk. Pomegranate may help reduce some kinds of skin cancer and has been shown to speed wound healing.
- Can pomegranate slow skin aging and even wrinkles?
Studies show that different fractions of pomegranate may help with signs of skin aging.
- Pomegranate seed oil stimulated keratinocyte proliferation and increased mild thickening of the epidermis.
- Pomegranate peel extract stimulated type I procollagen synthesis and inhibited matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs can break down skin proteins) production by dermal fibroblasts.

- Manufactured to GMP standards.
- Rigorously tested to ensure no heavy metal or other contamination.

- Alzheimer’s disease
Mice given pomegranate juice learned water maze tasks more quickly and swam faster than controls. The treated mice also had 50% fewer beta-amyloid deposits (a factor in Alzheimer’s disease).
