Product Highlights

United Erie has readily available competitive PUCB binder systems designed to meet your production requirements. Unicure is a “true” phenolic urethane binder system providing all the benefits of an accredited PUCB binder system. Used with either standard triethylamine (TEA) or dimethylethylamine (DMEA), Unicure systems are suitable for a fast-paced high production PUCB foundry.

  • Unicure systems maintain high “out of box” tensile strengths with excellent moisture resistance for long core shelf-life
  • In keeping with a well-vented TEA/DMEA environment extended sand resin bench life can be expected, lasting 8-10 hours
  • Good shakeout characteristics, good casting quality
  • A built-in internal release agent provides for improved core release
Unicure Series Features & Characteristics
  • Superior Out-of-Box Strengths
  • Reclaimable
  • Great Bench-Life
  • High Eventual Strength
Unicure Series Benefit Summary
  • Higher Production Rates
  • Excellent Release/Reduced Resin Wipe-Off
  • Excellent Humidity Resistance
  • Longer Core Shelf-Life

Product Application Instructions
  • Mixing/Curing: Unicure systems can be used with either a continuous or batch mixer, which feeds into a hopper to await blowing into tooling. Silica and Lake sands have proven suitable for use with this system. Sand temperatures of 75°F to 85°F are ideal. The use of heated sand or exposure to atmospheric TEA/DMEA can shorten sand resin bench-life, in hoppers. Mixers should be kept clean and calibrated on a regular basis. Tooling vents should be kept clear to maintain a sufficient flow of gas and purge air. Total binder levels between 0.90% and 1.70% are generally recommended, depending on individual operational needs. Typical binder level is 1.00% to 1.50% total, based on the weight of sand (BOS). Gas time/pressure and purge time/pressure vary greatly on type of core being produced. A typical full cure cycle would involve a 1 - 3 second gas time followed by a 7-10 second purge time.
  • Mold/Core Making: Unicure systems yield flowable sand mixes, for extended periods of time. Blow pressures of 60 psi are generally recommended. Density is directly related to casting surface quality. A sand resin mix that has reached the end of its work time should not be used. If desired, an aluminum powder-based release can be used to coat the pattern surface. Do not use chlorinated solvent type of washes.
  • Coating: Most refractory coatings can be used with Unicure systems. Water-based core washes have proven successful in improving casting surface qualities. United Erie’s Top Bond B surface hardener has proven to be effective as an alternative to other coatings. Top Bond B produces excellent surface scratch hardness and further enhances moisture resistance.
