Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha Ltd. Ultrafine titanium oxide TTO-55 (B)

Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha Ltd. Ultrafine titanium oxide TTO-55 (B) achieves excellent UV protection and high transparency by synthesizing fine particle titanium oxide in the nano region. Various properties as fine particles are applied to a wide range of applications. It is a standard grade of the TTO series, and we have a lineup of products based on features such as transparency, UV shielding characteristics, and weather resistance.

    Features & Benefits

    Features

Features of Ultrafine Titanium Oxide TTO Series

    • It is a rutile-type crystal and is physically and chemically stable.
    • Ultrafine particles with a particle size of several tens of nm, with low light scattering and high transparency .
    • When blended with metallic paint, the " flip-flop effect " that changes the hue depending on the viewing angle can be obtained due to the scattering characteristics peculiar to ultrafine particles .
    • Due to its high dispersion, it can also be used as an underlayer material that imparts excellent smoothness.
    • The hydrophilicity and water repellency of the titanium oxide surface are controlled by inorganic and organic surface treatments, and dispersibility

    Transparency of TTO series
    • Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha Ltd. Ultrafine titanium oxide TTO-55 (B) - Transparency of Tto SeriesWith ultrafine titanium oxide, a highly transparent coating film can be obtained compared to the case of using titanium oxide for pigments (Photo 1).
    • However, since the finer particles consume more dispersion energy, it is necessary to pay attention to the pigment concentration and dispersion conditions for ultrafine titanium oxide. Please drop in for a detailed explanation here.

    • Application conditions
    • Resin: Acrylic / melamine resin
PWC (pigment weight concentration) = 3.3%

    About Flip-Flop Effect

When ultrafine titanium oxide is added to metallic paint, the color tone changes colorfully from golden to bluish depending on the viewing angle.

Especially for members with curved surfaces, the effect is remarkable on the curved surface, so it is often used as a color effect to color the surface of automobile paints and mobile phones.

The figure below shows an image of color change in a curved surface member coated with a metallic paint containing TTO particles. Click here for a detailed explanation of the effect .

    Image of flip-flop effect

The figure below is an image of a corrugated sheet coated with a metallic paint containing ultrafine titanium oxide / aluminum flakes.

The paint film color becomes a pale golden color as a whole due to the blue light scattering effect of ultrafine titanium oxide, but as a result of the bluish color being emphasized because the light reflection / incident angle is locally different on the curved surface, the golden color to blue A vivid flip-flop effect that changes to the taste color appears.
