Kaufman Products SurePoxy HM Class B

SurePoxy HM Class B is a high modulus, 100% solids, two-component, moisture-insensitive, epoxy resin system. It is an all-purpose, very high strength rigid adhesive designed for structural bonding of dry and damp materials free of standing water, and may be used with concrete, metals such as steel, wood, and other substrates. This product is chemically engineered specifically for cold weather work in temperatures as low as 32°F. SurePoxy HM Class B does not contain fillers or non-reactive diluents.

Uses

SurePoxy HM Class B is recommended for use in cool temperatures for grouting base plates, bolts, bonding fresh concrete to old or use as a low viscosity, penetrating sealer. HM Class B is ideal for pressure injection high modulus grouting. When mixed with SurePoxy Aggregate, it provides an excellent setting bed for precast concrete, marble and granite. Material may also be used at temperatures greater than 60°F, to provide a very fast setting epoxy system.

Directions

Surface Preparation: Concrete - Satisfactory performance of SurePoxy HM Class B is dependent upon the surface to which it will be applied. Only sound clean surfaces should be coated and concrete should be a minimum of 28 days old. Remove oil, wax, curing compound, laitance, and other foreign matter as per ASTM D- 4258. Sandblasting and mechanical scarification according to ASTIVI D-4259 are the preferred methods of properly preparing the floor. Acid etching according to ASTM D-4260 with Kaufman Products Concrete Floor Etch or 15-20% muriatic acid solution can be used as an alternative. Be sure to rinse thoroughly with clear water to remove all residue. The surface shall uniformly be roughened to a degree similar in appearance to coarse sandpaper-aggregate may show. Steel Sandblast to appropriate finish. Expansion/control joints, joint sealants, floor drains and floor termination joints require special attention. HM Class B will not usually adhere to sealant joints. Test first.

Proportion Mixing: The volumetric ration of SurePoxy HM Class B is 2:1 (A:B). To mix, proportion 2 parts A and 1 part B into a clean pail. Mix thoroughly for 3 minutes with paddle on low speed (400-600 rpm) drill until blend is uniform color. Add approximately 3 parts by volume SurePoxy Mortar Aggregate to 1 part neat SurePoxy HM Class B to produce a mortar at 42°F. At 75°F up to 7 parts SurePoxy Mortar Aggregate may be used. Mix thoroughly.

Application: Bonding fresh concrete to hardened concrete – apply at rate of 80 ft2/gl. to concrete containing less than 4% moisture. Grout Cracks - Gravity feed SurePoxy HM Class B into horizontal cracks, pressure feed into vertical or overhead cracks. Anchor bolts - Use either neat or with SurePoxy Aggregate, added at the rate of 5-7 parts to 1 part of SurePoxy HM Class B by volume. Seal Slabs - Spread neat SurePoxy HM Class B over surface of slab with flat rubber squeegee or roller.

Bonding: New to Old Concrete Directions for new concrete to old concrete at temperatures 40-60°F. Apply fresh concrete while HM Class B is still tacky. If SurePoxy HM Class B begins to loss its tackiness because it is setting up, apply a fresh coat immediately. If the material does set up, it will require proper surface preparation prior to any re-application of the bonding agent, including methods such as acid etching, sand blasting, shot blasting, etc. Always prepare the substrate according to directions from the International Concrete Repair Institute, Guideline Specification 03732, Selecting & Specifying Concrete Surface Preparation for Sealers, Coatings, and Polymer Overlays.
