Features & Benefits
- Ready-to-Use Product Features
- Advantages
- By reducing the interfacial tension, rapid wetting of the surfaces to be cleaned is ensured.
- The dissolution of coatings as well as rolling and annealing scale is not impaired by the inhibitor.
- Protects normal and special steels (e.g. superheater and low-temperature steels) as well as copper-based alloys.
- Dissolves immediately when added to dilute or concentrated hydrochloric acid.
- Remains resistant even in concentrated hydrochloric acid (25 - 33%). This property is of great importance for the production of inhibited acids, which may be stored for a long time before being used.
- Advantages of LITHSOLVENT Cleaning Concentrates
LITHSOLVENT cleaners are especially developed for acidic cleaning. These are ready-to-use mixtures of acid and inhibitor, ideally suited for a temperature range from room temperature to 80 °C.
LITHSOLVENT cleaners are intended for customers who do not have the option to prepare their own cleaning solutions. Generally, they are inhibited methanesulfonic, formic, hydrochloric, amidosulfonic, citric and phosphoric acids, formulated for different cleaning temperatures and materials.
- Product Highlights
The highly effective inhibitor formulation is used to protect metallic materials during chemical cleaning or pickling with hydrochloric acid or hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid mixtures. LITHSOLVENT 620 dissolves immediately when added to diluted or concentrated hydrochloric acid. It also remains stable in concentrated hydrochloric acid (25 - 33%). This property is of great importance for the production of inhibited acids, which may be stored for a long time before being used.
Applications & Uses
- Markets
- Use Level
- 2.5 - 5 g/ltr
- Applications
- LITHSOLVENT 620 is a highly efficient inhibitor formulation for the protection of metal materials during the chemical cleaning or pickling with hydrochloric acid and mixtures of hydrochloric acid/hydrofluoric acid at temperatures up to 90°C. For cast iron the max. working temperature is 40°C.
- LITHSOLVENT 620 contains a combination of specifically acting inhibitors and special surfactants with a high wetting effect. A quick wetting of the surfaces to be cleaned is ensured by reducing the interfacial tension. The dissolution of mill scales is not impaired by LITHSOLVENT 620.
- LITHSOLVENT 620 inhibits the corrosion of the following materials in the range of temperature mentioned above: standard steel and special steel (e.g. superheater steel and low temperature resistant steel) as well as alloys on copper basis.
- Aluminum and light metal alloys as well as zinc, tin and chrome are not sufficiently protected. Cast iron is protected up to max. 40°C only.
- In the table below the corrosion rates at 5 % HCl at 60°C and 75°C for steel material St 37 at a duration of action of 3 hours with and without the inhibitor LITHSOLVENT 620 are indicated as example for the good protection against corrosion.

- Addition and Dosing
- LITHSOLVENT 620 immediately dissolves at the addition to diluted or concentrated hydrochloric acid. It is even resistant in concentrated hydrochloric acid (25 - 33%). This property is of great importance for the preparation of inhibited acids which, possibly, might be stored for a longer period of time before use.
- Even in mixed acids (e.g. hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acid) LITHSOLVENT 620 is completely efficient. Careful mixing of acid and inhibitor is important for a good inhibition effect.
- In general the dosing rate amounts to 2.5 kg LITHSOLVENT 620/m3 diluted cleaning or pickling acid. If the inhibitor should be added into the concentrated acid, 1.5 kg LITHSOLVENT 620 have to be dosed per 100 kg acid.
- The duration of action of the inhibited acid on the materials should not exceed 6 hours.
- At temperatures above 80°C the dosing rate should be increased to 5 kg LITHSOLVENT 620 per m³ cleaning solution.
- To avoid corrosion damages by pitting the acid concentration should not exceed 50 g HCl per liter solution.
- After cleaning the plant and apparatus should be carefully rinsed with water until they are free from acid.
- Areas of Application
Inhibitor for hydrochloric acid and hydrochloric acid / hydrofluoric acid mixtures up to 90°C
- Coverings
Inorganic scale such as calcium carbonate, calcium oxalate, silicates, occasionally phosphates, aconates, citrates, depending on water use, also sulfates or organic coatings.
- Examples / Best Practice
The good corrosion protection effect is shown for example: for 5 % HCl at 60 °C and 75 °C and steel material St 37 at an exposure time of 3 hours the removal values without and with inhibitor LITHSOLVENT 620 are listed:
