- Use
Coelan® Parking Coat is used as a mid-coat and topcoat in the Coelan® Parking System over pre-cast and cast-in-place concrete parking garages. The system may be applied only over concrete. All popular traffic marking paints, tapes, and other technologies may be applied to the finished surface.
- Limitations
The following conditions must not be coated with the Coelan® Parking Systems or products: on below grade slabs, split slabs with buried membrane, sandwich slabs with insulation, slabs over unvented metal pan, suspended pool decks, swimming pools, magnesite, lightweight concrete, asphalt surfaces and asphalt overlays. Coelan® Parking Coat may be applied only when the ambient temperature is 50°F (10°C) or rising, and the substrate temperature is a minimum of 5 degrees above the dew point. If more than 24 hours passes between coats, re-prime the surface with Coelan® Primer GP or Coelan® Primer NC.
- Yield
Refer to System Application Rates. All yields are approximate and may vary depending upon smoothness and absorbency of substrate.
- Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be free from gross irregularities, loose, unsound or foreign material such as dirt, ice, snow, water, grease, oil, release agents, lacquers, or any other condition that would be detrimental to adhesion of the topcoat. Note: Prior to opening the containers of Coelan® Parking Coat, wear appropriate safety glasses and protect hands and wrists by wearing gauntlet-type neoprene gloves.
- Mixing of Topcoat
Before application, mix Coelan® Parking Coat using a mechanical mixer at slow speed until a homogeneous mixture and color is obtained. Use caution not to whip air into the material as this may result in pinhole blisters and/or shortened pot life.
- Application
Apply Coelan® Parking Coat evenly over the entire concrete surface. For best results, use a phenolic resin core roller but extra care should be taken not to cause air bubbles. Coelan® Parking Coat may require more than one coat depending on the job specification and requirements. When estimating material requirements, coverage rates tend to increase for subsequent coats of material. To obtain proper adhesion between coats it is imperative that 16 hours of dry time is observed with the successive coats to be applied within 48 hours. The topcoat requires continuous coating application to minimize lines and/or streaking. Open containers must be used as soon as possible.
Allow 24 hours before permitting light pedestrian traffic and 72 hours before heavy pedestrian traffic. Surface may be slippery when wet.
Curing may vary due to temperature or humidity. All 24-48 hours before permitting light pedestrian traffic and 72-96 hours before allowing vehicular traffic on the finished surface. Equipment should be cleaned with an environmentally safe solvent, as permitted under local regulations, immediately after use.
