Calcifert Sulfur product details
One of the purest calcium sulfate products on the market for arable and grassland soils deficient in calcium and sulfur. Calcifert Sulfur is a granulated calcium sulfate product.
Benefits of Calcifert Sulfur
Trials of Calcifert Sulfur have resulted in:
- Strengthening of the plant’s physical structure [link], helping to protect against disease and use sunlight and nutrients more efficiently
- Improvements to spring barley yield where there was a sulfur deficiency
- Increase in grass protein levels in three on consecutive silage cuts on grassland
- Improved digestibility of grass forage
- Improved soil structure and workability by reducing compaction caused by equipment and livestock

We, therefore, recommend using this for arable and grassland soils deficient in calcium and sulfur.
Getting the right balance
Calcium and sulfur are essential nutrients for crops and grassland. Soil lacking in either of these minerals can result in:
- Reduced yield
- Poor crop performance
- Reduced shelf life of fresh produce
- Low Nitrogen Utilization Efficiency
- Reduced storage potential
- Tight difficult to work soils
- Reduced quality forage
We advise applying Calcifert Sulfur to soils where there is a known deficiency or to crops with a known high requirement.
Calcium deficiency
Calcium deficiency regularly occurs in acidic soils where natural Calcium has been leached. It is also evident in soils where high rates of slurry and fertilizer Nitrogen have been used. That is because these can have an acidifying action on the soils which lowers Calcium levels. Supplying crop available Calcium with Calcifert Sulfur benefits crop health and cell strength. It helps to reduce its susceptibility to cell degradation and disease.
Sulfur deficiency
Sulfur deficiency is common in crops where high rates of Nitrogen have not been balanced with adequate Sulfur. Due to atmosphere cleaning by reducing Sulfur emissions from industry and vehicles, there has been a 75% reduction in deposition to land. Therefore Sulfur deficiency has become very common affecting crop quality and nitrogen use efficiency. Supplying crop available Sulfate with Calcifert Sulfur helps rebalance the requirement during the growing season. As a result, this will improve yield and crop quality.
Magnesium excess
It is possible to move this excess Magnesium cation out of the soil by using higher rates of Calcifert Sulfur. We advise you to do this:
- Where soils have very high Magnesium levels,
- are hard to cultivate,
- and tend to hold water with a sticky texture.
The Calcium helps to restructure the soil by improving the flocculation and reducing the dominance of Magnesium.
Efficient nitrogen generation
Sulfur is key to efficient nitrogen generation. It is therefore essential that farmers get the most from the input they apply, especially with ever-increasing fertilizer prices. Calcifert Sulfur is a quick and easy way to supply both calcium and sulfur to the soil and crop.
Calcifert Sulfur has been spreader tested on various machines. Our latest spreader calibration data is available from the spreader settings tab (scroll up and select next tab).
