Product Highlights

The unique surface properties of the paint film provide increased speed, save fuel and effectively help to protect the hull against moisture penetration / plastic plague and prevent corrosion on metals. The hard, slippery and shiny surface layer makes it difficult for growth to adhere and is at the same time easy to keep clean, which makes the product suitable as a primer for mechanical cleaning methods such as boat bottom washers. T-Coat has a long-term performance when applied correctly.

  • T-Coat is completely free of pesticides / biocides, metals, silicone and can be used in all waters.
  • Recommended as a base color by brush washing suppliers.

Application Details

Application tools : Lacquer rolls (type felt or mohair, width 100mm) and lacquer brush.

Range / coverage:  Approx. 9m2 /liter.

Compatible substrates: Gelcoat / plastic, Steel, Aluminum, drive, trim tab. Previous primers and other one-component paints are completely removed. The surface is roughly sanded (grain 80-120) and washed thoroughly. If necessary, e.g. when applied to untreated gelcoat, on iron, steel and aluminum, primer the surface with a layer of Lefant Epoxi Primer . Can be painted on existing epoxy primer in good condition after rough sanding (grain 80-120). To achieve an extra smooth "racing surface", the T-Coat can be wet sanded to the desired final finish.

Substrate temperature during application:  Lowest curing temperature +7°C, at higher temperatures the product becomes more fluid and vice versa at lower temperatures. To improve working conditions at low working temperatures, e.g. heating fans are placed adjacent to the application surface and the epoxy mixture is placed in a heated water bath. Recommended base and product temperature is +15°C to +25°C.

Preparation: Existing one-component paints are completely removed, e.g. by using Lefant Paint Remover, sanding or blasting. Existing epoxy primer in good condition may remain. Roughly sand the surface (grains 80-120) and then wash thoroughly with Lefant Boat Cleaner and fresh water. Apply a coat of Lefant Epoxy Primer. Then fill in any irregularities and damage.

Mixing:  Mix the selected pigment with the base and stir thoroughly, then add the hardener and stir thoroughly. (Note: Pigments must be added as the pigment is part of the base in the base / hardener mixing ratio)

Painting:  Make sure that the application surface is clean, dry and maintains a temperature between 15-25°C. Before each application, wipe the treatment surface with Lefant IPA Surface Cleaner or Acetone. Apply T-Coat in even layers over a limited area and apply directly with a brush (hold the brush at an angle of about 45 degrees to minimize the appearance of brush stripes) Then allow the first layer to harden until the surface is sandable. Before the second layer, the surface is roughened with sandpaper grains 120-180, this to create a scratch pattern so that subsequent layers can adhere properly.

Overpainting (between T-Coat Layers):  Allow the first coat of T-Coat to harden until the surface is sandable. Mat the surface (grains 120-180) and then wash thoroughly with Lefant Boat Cleaner and fresh water, allow to dry.

Overcoating on T-Coat (with eg Antifouling paint): Roughly matte the  surface (grain 120) and then follow the instructions for the selected product.

Use/maintenance:  To keep the surface clean during the season, brush washing, scrubbing, high pressure washing or another mechanical cleaning method is recommended. Suitable products for final cleaning and restoration of the surface on land are Lefant Boat Cleaner, Lefant Boat Bottom & Waterline Cleaner and Lefant Barnacle Remover .

Number of layers: 2-3 (approx. 100my / layer)

Primer:  Lefant Epoxi Primer

Recommended personal protective equipment:  Gloves, respiratory protection and disposable overalls
