The SilSense® and Ultrabee™ silicones represent a unique and beneficial extension of the cosmetic science expertise of Lubrizol Advanced Materials, Inc. The properties of silicones in personal care applications are well known; they provide conditioning, emolliency, water resistance, and lubricity. Their high molecular weight results in very low irritation potential, making them excellent ingredients for personal care products.
Traditional silicones can be difficult to formulate and tend to defoam; this limits their utility in many personal care products. Lubrizol Advanced Materials’ patented silicone technology allows for the modification of silicone’s intrinsic properties through the introduction of various organic groups. With creative chemistry, we vary the type and degree of organic substitution, the ionic character and the molecular weight and water solubility of the silicone. This allows the creation of silicone derivatives which differ in their skin feel, conditioning strength and solubility profiles.
