The innate subconscious perception of beauty by humans relies on symmetry and the ideal harmony of proportions. Here, the golden ratio proportion, represented by the Greek number Phi, is crucial and can be applied to visible facial features as well as to the cellular level in the skin. This natural balance in proportions can be altered by the aging process and by psychological stress, with the stress hormone cortisol producing an array of negative effects on skin cells. Telocytes are a newly discovered cell type of the skin. They have long projections, known as telopodes, that form a network in the interstitium and secrete vesicles known as exosomes. Through intercellular communication, telocytes can regulate stem cells and contribute to reparative mechanisms and the maintenance of tissue organization.
TelophiTM biotech ingredient showed, in vitro, to favor the presence of telocytes and to protect them from the damage caused by cortisol, including the negative effects on their communication mechanisms. When the active ingredient was applied in a cream, an enhancement in Phi-related proportions was detected. In vivo studies also revealed a global improvement in the facial contour, firmness, and luminosity, as well as the symmetry of these features. It also reduced wrinkle appearance.
