Science
Clay is an ancient skin care treatment, long known to provide wellness and purification to the skin. The benefits of clays can be evaluated by measuring the amount of bacterial pophyrins, a metabolic product of P. acnes, on the skin. The presence of porphyrins on the skin has been associated with inflammation. Reducing the porphyrins on the skin can be associated with cleaner skin and reduced inflammatory imperfections. Clays are known to provide antioxidant, health-promoting and regenerative properties to the skin.
Uniclay™ biotech ingredient has been shown, in vitro, to reduce the presence of P. acnes biofilm formation and increase cellular oxygen consumption rates. It also presented skin soothing, cleansing and antioxidant effects. In vivo, in a multi-ethnic group of volunteers, it provided cleaner, smoother skin and reduced the appearance of imperfections. Participants reported enhanced well-being and self-perception.
