Applications & Uses

Application Method
Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Basic Uses
  • Iso-Flex 608 is used where an attractive color matching floor system is required with abrasion-resistant characteristics.
  • Typical applications include stair towers, vestibules, locker rooms, food manufacturing plants, animal rooms, institutional facilities and warehouses.
Limitations
  • Apply only when material and surface temperatures are above 50°F and rising.
  • Do not apply when temperatures are above 90°F.
  • Store Iso-Flex 608 at temperatures between 50°F and 90°F.
Surface Preparation
  • Concrete must be structurally sound, dry, free of grease, oils, coatings, dust, curing compound and other contaminants.
  • Surface laitance must be removed.
  • The preferred method of surface preparation is abrasive blasting.
  • For oil contaminated surfaces, using steam cleaning in conjunction with a strong emulsifying detergent is recommended.
  • Rinse thoroughly with potable water.
  • After cleaning, remove defective concrete, honeycombs, cavities, joint crack voids and other defects by routing to sound material.
  • Smooth precast and formed concrete surfaces must be cleaned, roughened and made absorptive by abrasive blasting or shot blasting.
  • If it is not possible to abrade or shot blast, acid etch with a 15% hydrochloric acid solution.
  • After etching, pressure wash or flush the surface with copious amounts of water to neutralize the surface.
  • Care must be taken to ensure that all salts and residue from the reaction have been removed.
  • The pH of the surface should be checked, as per ASTM D4262, following acid etching.
  • New concrete should be allowed to cure for a minimum of 28 days prior to applying Iso-Flex 608.
  • Remove any surface hardener, or curing compound by abrasive blasting.
Mixing Instructions
  • Using a low speed drill motor and a "Jiffy" type mixer, mix the A & B components separately for approximately 1 minute.
  • Combine two parts by volume of "A" with one part by volume of "B" and mix thoroughly.
  • Scrape the bottom and sides of the mixing container at least once.
  • Mix just enough material that can be used within the working life.
  • Do not aerate the mix.
Application
  • Apply Iso-Flex 608 to the clean substrate, using a brush, short nap (1/8") roller or spray equipment.
  • Apply at a rate of 80 - 100 ft2 / gallon to give a wet film of 16 - 20 mils.
  • Broadcast the flake or aggregate to refusal.
  • The application rate for the acrylic or vinyl flake is approximately 0.15 - 0.25 lb./ft2 and the quartz approximately 1.0-1.5 lb./ ft2.
  • Allow the epoxy to cure for 16 - 24 hours.
Lock Coats
  • Iso-Flex 608 Epoxy can be applied as a lockcoat at 75-150 ft2 / gallon.
  • Iso-Flex 614 Aliphatic Urethane can be applied as a lock coat in direct sun exposure applications.
  • Apply at 80-100 ft2 / gallon.
Clean-Up Instructions
  • Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with methyl ethyl ketone or xylene.
  • Clean spills or drips while still wet with same solvent.
  • Cured Iso-Flex 608 will require mechanical abrasion for removal.
Maintenance
  • Iso-Flex 608 Decorative Flooring System will provide a long, effective service life when properly used and maintained.
  • Damaged areas may be repaired in the field using methods approved by the manufacturer.
