Holistic nourishing benefits of a natural ingredient

We have 40+ years of experience in creating an established system that goes from procurement to processing of the natural ingredients used in making our Phulwara butter.

Phulwara butter is sourced from the seeds of the phulwara tree also known as cherui tree. Cheuri trees are large trees that are found on hilly slopes and valleys. The flowers bloom in the beginning of summer while the fruit comes in the beginning of the monsoon season. We collect seeds from the river banks and slopes of the Himalayan tract that goes along the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal and northern part of Bengal in india. After removing the pulp from fruit these seeds are dried to form our high quality Phulwara butter.

    Sustainable Sourcing

We have been working with millions of local women cooperatives and have collaborated with Self help groups to uplift their livelihoods. These women hand-collect the Phulwara fruit from the hilly areas. Then, they remove the outer layer of the seed after peeling the fruit and dry it in the sun to reduce moisture and prevent rancidity; keeping the ingredient hygienic. After cleaning the seeds, they bring it to our collection center. And finally, the churi seeds reach our production facility for extraction of their nourishing oil.

Manorama also provides training to the cooperatives on harvesting methods. We help protect India’s Phulwara trees while providing a sustainable source of income. During harvesting season, these women carry 15-20kg of fruit every day.
