Martin Marietta Magnesia Specialties, LLC, a subsidiary of Martin Marietta, is a leading producer of high purity magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide products, which are used in a variety of environmental, industrial, chemical, and specialty applications.

With its primary manufacturing facilities in Manistee, Michigan (magnesia plant) and Woodville, Ohio (dolomitic lime plant), Martin Marietta Magnesia Specialties also employs global and domestic distribution points to better serve its customers both domestically and worldwide.

Environmental grade magnesia applications include: water treatment, wastewater treatment, flue gas desulfurization, and hydrogen sulfide control.

Industrial grade magnesia applications include: refractories, lubricating oils, abrasives, construction/cements, electrical heating elements, glass manufacture, pulp bleaching, metal mining, and sugar refining.

Chemical grade magnesia applications include: raw material in the manufacture of magnesia salts such as magnesium sulfate, magnesium nitrate and fuel additives.

Specialty grade magnesia applications include: synthetic rubber compounding, plastics, coatings, silicon grain oriented steel manufacture, and food grade (FCC).

MagChem® magnesium oxides including MagChem 30, 35, 40 and 50 are used to produce overbased magnesium sulfonates and magnesium salicylates that serve as fuel additives and motor oil detergents. MagChem’s high purity, uniform calcination and fine particle size generate sulfonates and salicylates with high base numbers and good clarity.

MagShield® is a non-halogenated, high purity magnesium hydroxide powder for use as a flame retardant and smoke suppressant in plastic compounds for thermoplastic olefins, plastic building materials, select wire and cable applications, and plastic fillers and coatings.

MagChem® 40 is a high purity, light burned magnesium oxide produced from magnesium-rich brine and dolomitic lime. This fine white powder has a very high reactivity index and a low bulk density.

MagShield® UF magnesium hydroxide is achemically precipitated grade of magnesium hydroxide with a median particle size of 1.0 micron and produced from magnesium-rich brine and dolomitic lime. It is designed for critical, non-halogen flame retardant applications such as select wire and cable insulation and other thin section applications.

MagShield® UF NB 10 magnesium hydroxide is achemically precipitated grade of magnesium hydroxide with a median particle size of 1.0 micron and produced from magnesium-rich brine and dolomitic lime. It is designed for critical, non-halogen flame retardant applications such as select wire and cable insulation and other thin section applications. MagShield UF NB10 has been treated with a stearate coating that is fully bonded to the magnesium hydroxide to improve dispersion, handling and physical properties of the compounded plastic.

Elastomag® 170 magnesium oxide is a micronized, high reactive grade of magnesium oxide made from magnesium-rich brine and dolomitic lime at our Manistee, Michigan plant.

Elastomag® 100 magnesium oxide is a high activity grade of magnesium oxide with lower activity thanstandard Elastomag 170. Elastomag 100 is made from magnesium-rich brine and dolomitic lime at our Manistee, Michigan plant.

MagShield® S is a chemically precipitated grade of magnesium hydroxide made from magnesium-rich brine and dolomitic lime. It is designed for non-halogen flame retardant applications and can be processed in plastics at higher temperatures than alumina trihydrate.

MagChem® 200 AD is a high purity, highly reactive micronized magnesium oxide powder produced from magnesium-rich brine and dolomitic lime.

MagShield® S NB 10 is a chemically precipitated grade of magnesium hydroxide made from magnesium-rich brine and dolomitic lime. It is designed for non-halogen flame retardant applications and can be processed in plastics at higher temperatures than alumina trihydrate. The fatty acid coating is bonded to magnesium hydroxide and allows for the use of other processing aids.

Elastomag® 170 Special is similar to Elastomag 170 magnesium oxide but tested and assured to have a median particle size of &lt; 3 microns. Elastomag 170Special is made from magnesium-rich brine and dolomitic lime at our Manistee, Michigan plant.
