- Carnosic acid found in rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and common sage (Salvia officinalis) is a natural benzenediol abietane diterpene. Carnosic acid from Rosmarinus officinalis is used to study its mechanisms as an antioxidant that protects lipids from peroxidation and proteins from carbonylation.
- It Inhibits lipid peroxidation which is caused by NADH or NADPH oxidation. Carnosic acid is used to assess its neuroprotective activities including its ability to modulate the neurotoxic effects. Carnosic acid may also be used to study its anticancer potential.
