If you’re formulating for beauty and anti-aging products, Juvecol® is an award-winning, sustainable, solution. Juvecol® is a natural proteoglycan for skin and joint health that is also offering manufacturers sustainability claims through upcycled production.Perhaps only those of us in the natural products industry know that the cartilage-rich parts of salmon, which were traditionally discarded by fishermen, are now finding new use for multiple beauty-from-within and anti-aging formulations. Juvecol®, is one of those ingredients that’s derived from the cartilage of wild-caught salmon.Proteoglycans are a component of connective tissues, such as bone, cartilage, and skin. Clinical research studies on salmon cartilage proteoglycans (sPGs) have been revealing benefits relating to both joint health and skin health. In a gold-standard study, researchers found that sPGs promoted collagen and hyaluronic acid synthesis-- both key components for skin beauty, as well as, joint health. Juvecol®* is dairy-free, gluten-free, non-GMO and NDI-exempt, and is available for beauty, joint-health support, and beauty-from-within applications.

    Mechanism of Action
    • There are several hypotheses regarding how sPG works.
    • Skin: sPG induces the production of collagen and hyaluronan and enhances the proliferation of keratinocytes (skin cells).
    • Joints:  sPG spurs the production of chondrocytes (cartilage cells) by helping them proliferate and differentiate.
    • Skin and joints: sPG also stimulates immunity in the gut and lymphatic system, which helps maintain a balance of excitatory and inhibitory cytokines.

    Safety & Health

    Safety

In Japan, salmon cartilage is consumed as a traditional tonic for joint health and general health. Numerous animal studies on purified proteoglycan, including a 90-day repeated dose toxicity study in rats, have shown no adverse effects and found it is safe for human consumption.
