Spur Shield® is a Pinolene® based resin barrier that may be sprayed on pruning cuts and bark surfaces to seal wounds and inhibit water and bacteria from entering surface cuts. The combination of cleansing and sealing properties is especially effective for crops and vineyards in areas where the pruning season is cold and wet. This type of environment is conducive to harmful bacteria and disease development. Significant reductions in penetration of inoculum into pruning wound cuts have been observed in wine grapes, cherries, plums, and table grapes. Spur Shield provides a physical barrier from bacteria and disease at a critical time in the crop production cycle.

General Information

SPUR SHIELD is a natural polymer concentrate that creates a barrier that seals pruning wonds. It is NOT a fungicide but rather a unique resin which creates a protective barrier against the typical point of entry for wood diseases such as Eutypa dieback (EUTYPA LATA), Botryosphaeria Canker, Esca and other common trunk disease disorders. SPUR SHIELD is easily sprayed onto vines, trunks and tree bases. SPUR SHIELD is low odor and has no reentry restrictions after treatment. SPUR SHIELD may also be daubed or sprayed on pruning wounds with a backpack sprayer or hand held sprayer. The SPUR SHIELD barrier normally will set within one hour of application and is rain fast. For best results, apply SPUR SHIELD after pruning and before a moisture event such as fog or rainfall.

Directions For Use

GRAPES, BLUEBERRIES AND ALL CANE BARRIES:

Apply 1.5 to 2 quarts of SPUR SHIELD per acre (3.75 to 5.0 liters per hectare) as a directed spray in a minimum of 30 gallons of water per acre (285 liters per hectare).

APPLES, PEARS, PEACHES, CHERRIES AND ALL STONE FRUIT:

Apply 2 to 3 quarts of SPUR SHIELD per acre (7.5 to 10 liters per hectare) in a minimum of 50 gallons of water per acre (475 liters per hectare).

LEAFY VEGETABLES, BRASSICAS:
Apply 1 to 1.5 quarts of SPUR SHIELD per acre (2.3 to 3.75 liters per hectare) in water for good coverage as a directed spray to basal areas of the plant injured during thinning or mechanical weeding. Applications should be made as soon as possible after wounds have occurred.
NUT CROPS: INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ALMONDS, PECANS, PISTACHIOS and WALNUTS:
Apply 2 to 3 quarts of SPUR SHIELD per acre (7.5 to 10 liters per hectare) in a minimum of 50 gallons of water per acre (475 liters per hectare).
Coverage of spray wounds is critical. Direct spray at pruned areas; if adequate coverage cannot be achieved with minimum spray solution dosage, add 1 quart (1 liter) SPUR SHIELD for every 15 gallons (57 liters) of additional spray solution. For daubing or spraying with a backpack or hand sprayer mix 1 quart SPUR SHIELD in 10 gallons of water. Complete coverage of the pruning wound is critical.
