BENEBiOL

Mitsubishi Chemical Group Corporation Brand

BENEBiOL™ is Polycarbonatediol (PCD);  linear polycarbonate with hydroxyl groups at both ends which has been developed by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation. It can be used as a raw material of resins such as polyurethane. Because of the combination of the “key monomer“ of each grade and carbonyl group, polyurethane resins made from BENEBiOL™ will show superior properties in terms of durability, chemical/stain resistance, and flexibility for example. As some raw materials of BENEBiOL™ are biomass-based, BENEBiOL™ enables your product to be more sustainable.

Chemical Structure

“key monomer” of each grade is incorporated to the structure of BENEBiOL(R: key monomer).

Grade Categories and General Characteristics

BENEBiOL™ has three main grade categories; HS, NLDB/D, and NLB grade, which consists of different “key monomer” and has unique feature respectively. Each grade category is divided into more specific grades, depending on molecular weight, etc.

Property Data

Eg1: Oleic Acid Resistance

Test conditions: Polyurethane film is immersed in oleic acid at 80°C for a specified time, then weighed to measure the change in film weight.

Eg2: Sunscreen Resistance

Test conditions: 5μm urethane acrylate coating and sunscreen cream

  • Sunscreen cream applied to coated ABS substrate
  • Heating (at 60°C, 30 min.)
  • Sunscreen cream wiped off with a damp paper towel

Eg3: Stain Resistance

  • Denim color transfer: Indigo dye resistance test for TPU sheet
    • Test method (Martindale method)
    • Denim fabric 12 oz; load 12 kPa; rubbing 10,000 times
  • Coffee Stain: Food stain test for TPU sheet
    • The stain source is pipetted onto test pieces and left to stand 24 hours at 25°C
    • The extent of the staining is evaluated for each condition after wiping.

Eg4: UV Resistance: Comparison of physical properties after a 24-hour evaluation conducted using a weather meter

Brand Highlights

BENEBiOL™ is a bio-based polycarbonatediol with superior characteristics

  • Eco-Friendly: CO2 absorption by raw materials of BENEBiOL™
  • Long Life: Superior properties such as durability, chemical/stain resistance, and weather resistance will be brought to your product, by using BENEBiOL™

Storage & Handling Conditions
  • BENEBiOL™ should be sealed in a container with dry nitrogen since it is moderately hygroscopic
  • BENEBiOL™ NLDB/D and NLB(NL2005B) grades are solid at room temperature, and they can become a colorless transparent liquid when heated
  • Before using BENEBiOL™, it should be heated at a temperature above its melting point
  • Under transport regulations, BENEBiOL™ is not classified as a UN hazard class
  • BENEBiOL™ has low volatility and will not spontaneously ignite at room temperature. In the event of a fire, dry chemicals foam and plenty of water spray are effective for extinguishing
  • Safety glasses and protective gloves should be worn when handling BENEBiOL™
  • BENEBiOL™ is produced for industrial applications. If the intended use for BENEBiOL™ is for body contact applications such as pharmaceuticals, food, and cosmetics, please contact Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation in advance
