- Uses
DuraVar Plus was developed for use on kitchen and bathroom cabinets, dormitory, household, office or laboratory furniture, and display fixtures where a high-performance, moisture and chemical resistant finish is needed.
- Application
Application Procedure
DuraVar Plus post catalyzed finish is formulated to be self-sealing and have excellent sanding properties. When sanding between coats, use Fre-Cut (no fill) type sand paper. Although not necessary, if the use of a sealer is required, use a vinyl sealer or Krystal sealer. The use of conventional nitrocellulose sealers containing stearates are never recommended. Catalyzed (cross-linked) type coatings develop extremely durable finishes, but require controlled application procedures. Do not apply material too heavy per coat (4 to 5 mils wet per coat are recommended). Too much coating weight can cause recoating and durability problems. A light (scuff) sanding between coats is always recommended. An excellent, very durable finish can be developed by applying just two coats (apply not more than three coats). Recommended dry mil film thickness should not exceed 5 mils dry. Always agitate thoroughly during application.
Note: Hot spray application is not recommended. If hot spray equipment is used, temperature settings should never be over 110°F or 43° C.
Mixing
DuraVar Plus has been developed to start its cross-linking (drying) with the addition of 12.8 ounces of C149 1 Care Catalyst per gallon (10:1 ratio). Always mix the catalyst thoroughly before application. No waiting period (sweating in time) is necessary before using this product. After catalyzation, DuraVar Plus will have best performance properties if used before pot life (usable time) of eight hours.
Equipment Clean Up
- Use lacquer thinner to clean up all equipment.
- Dispose of dirty solvent and cleaning rags in a safe and approved manner.
- Solvent or lacquer-soaked rags should be stored in water-filled, closed containers prior to disposal.
Surface Preparation
- New Work: Remove any dirt, grease or other contamination and sand as required. If desired, apply WoodSong II stain as directed by the specific M.L. Campbell Product Information (PI) Sheet, prior to finishing.
- Old Work: Strip old finishes completely and remove all contaminants from the surface. Make sure surface is dry. Finish as new work.
Reduction
DuraVar Plus post-catalyzed finish is supplied ready to spray. No reduction is required. If reduction is necessary, use M.L. Campbell C160 36 Lacquer Thinner. Maximum reduction of 10- 15% recommended*. * A reduction of 10-15% will still keep DuraVar Plus below V.O.C. level of 670 g/l (5.58 lbs./gallon).
