- Uses
KRYSTAL HIGH BUILD SEALER may be used on any interior wood surface where a high performance, high solids, moisture, water and chemical resistant finishing system is needed. KRYSTAL HIGH BUILD SEALER is much more durable and moisture resistant than conventional nitrocellulose or vinyl sealers with added benefits of easy application, quick drying, high solids and build.
- Application
Application Procedure
KRYSTAL HIGH BUILD SEALER is formulated to be ready to spray after catalyzation, and has excellent sanding between coats. Use Fre-Cut (no fill) type sandpaper. Never use more than two coats of KRYSTAL HIGH BUILD SEALER or apply a complete coating system of over 5 dry mils as film integrity may be affected. Always sand white wood (unfinished) with no more than 140 grit sandpaper before application of KRYSTAL HIGH BUILD SEALER. Catalyzed (cross-linked) coatings develop extremely durable finishes, but require controlled application procedures. Do not apply material in too heavy a film (4 to 5 mils wet are recommended). Too much coating weight can cause recoating and durability problems. A light (scuff) sanding between coats is always necessary. An excellent, very durable sealer coat can be obtained by applying just one coat of KRYSTAL HIGH BUILD SEALER. Recommended total finish system dry mil thickness should not exceed 5 mils dry. Always thoroughly agitate during application.
Note: Hot spray application is not recommended. If hot spray equipment is used, temperature setting should never be over 110°F.
Mixing
KRYSTAL® HIGH BUILD SEALER has been designed to start its cross-linking (drying) with the addition of 10% (12.8 ounces per gallon) of M.L. Campbell C1491 Care Catalyst or 5% (6.4 ounces per gallon) of C1431 Care Catalyst Low VOC. Always mix catalyst in thoroughly before application. No wait time is necessary before using this catalyzed product after catalyzation. KRYSTAL HIGH BUILD SEALER has best performance properties if used within 24 hours.
Equipment Clean Up
- Use lacquer thinner to clean up all equipment.
- Dispose of dirty solvent and cleaning rags in a safe and approved manner.
- Solvent or lacquer soaked rags should be stored in a water filled, closed containers prior to disposal
Surface Preparation
- New Work: Remove any dirt, grease or other construction contamination and sand wood as required. If desired, use M.L. Campbell WoodSong II stains or Microtone dyes.
- Old Work: Strip old finishes completely and remove all contaminants from surface. When surface is dry, sand as required. Finish as new work. If cratering develops on old work, Fish Eye Killer may remedy this problem, if the contamination is not severe.
Reduction
No reduction is required; however, small amounts of lacquer thinner may be used if required for specific equipment. If blushing occurs use up to 5% M.L. Campbell C1621 Care Reducer or 1-3% M.L. Campbell C16336 BC Retarder.
Testing
Due to the wide variety of substrates, surface preparation methods, application methods, and environments, customers should test the complete system for adhesion and compatibility under their conditions prior to full-scale application.
