MWT Materials ARC-4300

ARC-4300 is an amorphous silica coating, which is applied at ambient temperatures and does not require heat to cure. The novel composition of ARC-4300 prevents devitrification normally caused by thermal cycling and exposure to corrosives. ARC-4300 is supplied in liquid form and is applied by spraying. Water is used for clean-up. There are no known carcinogens or corrosives in the liquid or cured product. ARC-4300 will enhance the serviceable life of refractory and metals subject to high heat environments and thermal loads. ARC-4300 is an unloaded system designed for ablation resistance only

Features & Benefits

Features
  • Meets or exceeds requirements of US-MIL-C-7438F/G
  • Thermal shock resistant
  • Extremely low thermal conductivity
  • NASA approved for use on Thermal Protection Tiles
  • Prevents corrosion and carbonization of metal and refractory substrates
  • Increases mechanical properties of fibrous refractory
Product Highlights
  • MWT’s ARC-4300 room temperature cure ceramic system is nontoxic, and requires no special handling other than gloves during application. Note that while liquid, the material is caustic (pH > 8).
  • Erosion Resistance : Extensive work has been done with both ARC-4300 to quantify resistance to abrasion, erosion, chemicals, and environment. Samples of these materials will remain intact after continuous impingement of sea water for 20 days, as well as abrasive materials. Erosion control can be tailored by the number of coats of ARC-4300 employed. Heating of the material by rocket exhaust tends to harden the coating making it more abrasion and erosion resistant.

Applications & Uses

Application Method
Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Typical Applications for Base Materials
  • Ablation resistant coating for blast pads, burner blocks, and other high heat flux situations
  • High temperature corrosion protection for metals and refractory
  • High temperature processing equipment
  • High temperature incinerator components
  • Protection of substrates from oxidation by high heat flux
Application Instructions
  • Coverage for the standard ARC-4300 material is 10 square meters per liter for a standard coating thickness of 0.1 mm. A minimum of 2 coats of ARC-4300 are recommended.
  • Mix Parts A and B in equal amounts completely for a minimum of 10 minutes. Agitate periodically during application
  • ARC-4300 may both be sprayed, brushed, or rolled vertically. However, it is important that the material not run, and that the substrate be properly prepared (cleaned and or sandblasted) to ensure a chemical bond between the coating and the substrate.
