Next Step Laboratories NS MGel 1199

NS MGel 1199 is a thickening self-emulsifying gel for making very stable W/O emulsions with the addition of additional thickeners/structurants or emulsifiers and is ideal for creating very creamy long wearing water-proof mascaras and eyeshadows without increase in product viscosity over time. It controls the viscosity build-up of W/O mascaras with relatively high wax phases by controlling crystallization rate of waxes, resulting in thickening mascaras without the hardening that usually occurs over time.

INCI Name: Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Propylene Carbonate, Quaternium-90 Bentonite

Functions: Emulsifier, Stabilizer, Thickener, Viscosity Modifier

Identification & Functionality

Features & Benefits

Product Charateristics
  • NS MGel is a multi-functional, self-emulsifying gel created to convey multiple benefits primarily to emulsion systems.
  • MGel is based on a combination of quaternized clays and silicone gels or hydrocarbon gels & emulsions.
  • MGel is used to create stable water/oil-silicone emulsions because emulsifiers are an integral part of the polar activation system.
  • MGel ingredients (components) meet the high standards required by the natural products market.
Ns Mgels What Are They?
  • NS MGels are emulsifier activated quaternized clays manufactured using non-mechanical milling which allows for a more efficient shearing of clays before activation.
  • Once shearing is complete, activation is initiated using a conventional polar activator as well as a polymeric emulsifier.
  • Emulsifier is a part of the gel network matrix, resulting in emulsification and stabilization simultaneously when used in an emulsion.
  • Self-emulsifying and self thickening
  • Low viscosity/thin W/O emulsions
  • Very stable at elevated temperature
  • Finished products do not experience phase transition
  • Non-greasy
  • Natural looking
  • Silky, soft application
  • Long wearing
  • Cold process
  • Short batch cycle time

Applications & Uses

Application Format
Color Cosmetic Applications
Directions
  • Add Phase A to beaker, mix then homogenize to disperse.
  • Mix Phase B in a beaker.
  • Add Phase B to Phase A in five parts, homomixing to full incorporation after each part.
  • Homomix for 5 minutes on medium speed.

General Guidelines
  • Decrease the surface tension of the water phase with a salt.
  •  Add the water phase in several parts, starting with the smallest amount first. Fully incorporate each part before adding the next.
  •  Add the preservative slowly, in parts, at the end.
