Novasil® Base EL-NF is an specific formulation auxiliary for obtaining water – silicone emulsions (W/Si), allowing to reach, depending on the formulation, stable emulsions with an internal aqueous phase concentration of 80 %.
- Product Benefits
- Base for water – silicone emulsions (W/Si) highly stable in time.
- It allows the incorporation of hydrophilic ingredients in anhydrous formulations.
- High resistance to high electrolyte concentration.
- Cold process.
- High resistance to shearing.
- Compatible with the majority of the cosmetic ingredients.
- Miscible with the majority of oils, esters and other oily ingredients.
- High capacity for dispersing pigments.
- It bears high Glycolic acid concentrations and others AHA.
- Wide range of tolerance of internal phase pH (2 – 13).
- It gives a high added sensorial value to the formulations.
- it acts as a texture agent.

- Formulations Guidelines
10 to 99 % As a general procedure, Novasil® Base EL-NF must be added at the beginning of the elaboration in the manufacturing reactor, incorporating the aqueous phase very slowly and under energic agitation, preferably, over the agitation vortex. Depending on the formulation, the final incorporation of the aqueous phase and the subsequent formation of an homogeneous emulsion, can take from fifteen minutes until a couple of hours.
- Normally, the oily ingredients can be incorporated to Novasil® Base EL-NF at the beginning of the elaboration. However, certain oily ingredients may require to be incorporated once the emulsion is formed.
- For obtaining a stable emulsion, a certain ionic potential in the aqueous phase is required. When the quantity of active hydrosoluble principles or electrolytes would not be enough, 0.2 to 0.5 % of ClNa or other proper electrolyte will be added to the aqueous phase.
- The final viscosity of the product will depend on the rest of the oily ingredients, considering that, normally, the components of the aqueous phase do not affect the development of the viscosity.
-Using Novasil® Base EL-NF as the unique oily component, a major proportion of internal phase will correspond to a major final viscosity of the emulsion.
- In case of need of a higher final viscosity of the product, Covasilic 15 (INCI : Silica Dimethyl Silylate / LCW – Sensient) is recommended, at the end of the manufacturing, in a concentration of 0.05 to 1 %.
- To avoid altering the emulsifier characteristics of the product, it is recommended not to use other tensioactives at the same time as Novasil® Base EL-NF.
