- Product Overview
- Cobalt is a dietary essential nutrient in livestock as it is a constituent of Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamine) which is necessary for blood formation.
- It has a higher significance in ruminant nutrition as Cobalt is used by the rumen microflora for synthesis of Vitamin B12. Cobalt is also a cofactor in propionate utilization by ruminants. Propionate, derived from fermentation of plant cellulose in the rumen, is the major source of energy in the ruminant.
- Cobalt deficiency is rare in simple stomach animals, but common in ruminants.
- Cobalt is poorly absorbed and is not stored sufficiently in body. Its absorption from intestine is often hampered by other mineral interactions, bioinhibitors like phytates, tannins, fiber, enzymes, etc.
