- Mode Of Action
Adept inhibits chitin biosynthesis. The primary mode of action is by disrupting cuticle formation and chitin deposition occurring when insect larvae change from one developmental stage to another (molting). Studies show that without proper chitin development, larvae are unable to break the egg shells so they are unable to hatch or die soon after hatching. As treated larvae or larvae feeding on treated material grow, internal pressure on its weakened exoskeleton causes it to “rupture” and the larvae dies before it reaches the next growth stage. Adept has no effect on adult stages of insects.
- Use Sites
Adept can be used in repeat applications as a soil treatment or foliar spray in enclosed commercial greenhouses, shadehouses and interiorscapes. Adept binds rapidly to organic matter, is not affected by irrigation, and it has 30 to 60 day residual activity against fungus gnat larvae.
- Application
Adept may be applied as a sprench or drench. Fungus Gnats/Shore Flies: Initial knockdown will typically take between 3 and 5 days. After that period, a number of emerging adults may lay eggs, but any new soil infesting larvae will be controlled for 30 to 60 days. Use 2 oz./100 gallons. Apply as a coarse spray (sprench). Drench rate is 1 oz/200 gallons water, apply using label specific drench volumes, i.e. 6 fl oz./6 inch pot.
Adept may be applied under Greenhouse benches and other non-crop areas. Mix 4 to 8 ozs. (4 to 8 bags)
Adept in 100 gals of water and apply at rate of 10 - 30 gallons per 1000 sq.ft. of area Foliar Feeding Insects: Spray Rate: 4 – 8 oz./100 gallons.
- Tank Mixing
Tank mixing is permitted with Adept. Growers should test for compatibility and make sure to follow all directions and precautions on labels prior to application.

- Directions For Use
- It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.
- Do not apply this product in a way that will contact workers or other persons, either directly or through drift.
- Only protected handlers may be in the area during application.
- For any requirements specifi c to your State or Tribe, consult the agency responsible for pesticide regulation.
- Agricultural Use Requirements
Use this product only in accordance with its labeling and with the Worker Protection Standard, 40 CFR Part 170. This Standard contains requirements for the protection of agricultural workers on farms, forests, nurseries, and greenhouses, and handlers of agricultural pesticides. It contains requirements for training, decontamination, notifi cation, and emergency assistance. It also contains specifi c instructions and exceptions pertaining to the statements on this label about personal protective equipment (PPE) and restricted-entry interval. The requirements in this box only apply to uses of this product that are covered by the Worker Protection Standard.
Do not enter or allow worker entry into treated areas during the restricted entry interval (REI) of 12 hours.
PPE required for early entry to treated areas that is permitted under the Worker Protection Standard and that involves contact with anything that has been treated, such as plants, soil, or water, is:
- coveralls
- chemical-resistant gloves
- shoes plus socks.
Safety & Health
- Precautionary Statements
HAZARDS TO HUMANS AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS
CAUTION
Causes moderate eye irritation. Avoid contact with eyes or clothing.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Applicators and Other Handlers Must Wear: A long-sleeved shirt and long pants; shoes plus socks; chemical-resistant gloves such as barrier laminate, butyl, nitrile, neoprene rubber or viton. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and maintaining PPE. If no such instructions for washables, use detergent and hot water. Keep and wash PPE separately from other laundry.
USER SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
Wash hands before eating, drinking, chewing gum, using tobacco, or using the toilet.
ENGINEERING CONTROLS
When handlers use closed systems (including water soluble bags), enclosed cabs or aircraft in a manner that meets the requirements listed in the Worker Protection Standard (WPS) for agricultural pesticides (40 CFR 170.240(d)(4-6), the handler PPE requirements may be reduced or modifi ed as specifi ed in the WPS. Water-soluble packets when used correctly qualify as a closed loading system under the WPS. Handlers handling this product while it is enclosed in intact water-soluble packets may elect to wear reduced PPE of long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and socks. IMPORTANT: When reduced PPE is worn because a closed system is being used, handlers must be provided all PPE specifi ed above for "applicators and other handlers" and have such PPE immediately available for use in an emergency, such as a spill or equipment breakdown.
- User Safety Recommendations
- Remove clothing immediately if pesticide gets inside. Then wash thoroughly and put on clean clothing.
- Remove PPE immediately after handling this product. Wash the outside of gloves before removing. As soon as possible, wash thoroughly and change into clean clothing.
- Environmental Hazards
This pesticide is toxic to aquatic invertebrates. For terrestrial uses, do not apply directly to water or to areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Drift or runoff from treated areas may be hazardous to aquatic invertebrate organisms in neighboring areas. Do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment wastewater or rinsate.
