Mode Of Action

The fungal active ingredient in SoilGard 12G uses multiple mechanisms to kill disease:

  • Antibiosis – the active ingredient produces an anti-biotic that kills plant pathogens;
  • Parasitism – the active ingredient attacks plant pathogens and consumes them;
  • Competition – the active ingredient out-competes soil pathogens for nutrients (those needed by the disease pathogens, not those needed by plants);
  • Exclusion – once the active ingredient is established, it prevents new pathogens from invading the soil.
Use Sites

SoilGard 12G may be used on ornamentals and food crop plants grown indoors and outdoors, in greenhouses, nurseries, and interiorscapes.

Application Rates

SoilGard 12G should be mixed at the rates of 1 to 1.5 lbs. per cubic yard of media. Granules must be distributed uniformly throughout the medium. If the potting medium has been heat sterilized, allow it to cool to 110 degrees F or lower before adding SoilGard 12G.

Allow at least 24 hours after SoilGard 12G incorporation before planting seeds, cuttings, or other nonrooted plant material. Plants with established roots can be transplanted into treated soil immediately after mixing with SoilGard 12G.

DRENCH APPLICATIONS: SoilGard 12G can be applied to flats, pots, or beds as a drench at the rate of .5 lbs. to 2 lbs. per 100 gal. of water. Pre-mix the desired amount of SoilGard 12G in 2 to 5 gal. of water and agitate or stir for 30 minutes. Pour the liquid slurry into a tank containing the remainder of the water, leaving any unsuspended solids in the mixing bucket.

For greenhouse flats, plug trays, or pots: (prior to planting) apply the finished drench at 100 gal. per 800 sq. ft. if less than 4 inches deep. If more than 4 inches deep, apply 100 gal. per 400 sq. ft. Do not water the treated area for 12 hours after application. Allow at least 24 hours between drench application and planting of seeds or non-rooted cuttings. Plants with established roots can be transplanted immediately into treated pots.

For potted plants with established roots: apply the finished drench at the base of the plant at a rate of 3 to 4 fl. oz. per plant for small plants (less than 6 inches tall) or 8 to 12 fl. oz. per plant for larger plants (greater than 6 inches tall).

For outdoor planting beds: Apply the finished drench at a rate of 100 gal. per 400 sq. ft. Do not water the treated area for 12 hours after application.

Tank Mixing

Do not use other soil fungicides with SoilGard 12G at the time of incorporation. Later, addition of fungicides is acceptable.

Omri Approved

All ingredients used in SoilGard 12G are naturally derived materials or microorganisms so it can be used for organically grown plants without concern (approved by OMRI). Also, SoilGard 12G does not harm beneficial soil organisms

Directions For Use

IT IS A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW TO USE THIS PRODUCT IN A MANNER INCONSISTENT WITH ITS LABELING. Do not apply this product in a way that will contact workers or other persons, either directly or through drift. Only protected handlers may be in the area during application. For any requirements specific to your State or Tribe, consult the agency responsible for pesticide regulation.

Agricultural Use Requirements

Use this product only in accordance with its labeling and with the Worker Protection Standard, 40 CFR Part 170. This Standard contains requirements for the protection of agricultural workers on farms, forests, nurseries, and greenhouses, and handlers of agricultural pesticides. It contains requirements for training, decontamination, notification, and emergency assistance. It also contains specific instructions and exceptions pertaining to the statements on this label about personal protective equipment (PPE), and restricted-entry interval. The requirements in this box only apply to uses of this product that are covered by the Worker Protection Standard. Do not enter or allow worker entry into treated areas during the restricted-entry interval (REI) of 4 hours. PPE required for early entry to treated areas (that is permitted under the Worker Protection Standard and that involves contact with anything that has been treated, such as plants, soil, or water) is: coveralls, waterproof gloves, shoes plus socks, and protective eyewear.

EXCEPTION: If the product is soil injected or soil incorporated, the Worker Protection Standard, under certain circumstances, allows workers to enter the treated area if there will be no contact with anything that has been treated.

Non-Agricultural Use Requirements

The requirements in this box apply to uses of this product that are NOT within the scope of the Worker Protection Standard for agricultural pesticides (40 CFR Part 170). The WPS applies when this product is used to produce agricultural plants on farms, forests, nurseries, or greenhouses. For other uses including Interiorscapes, and other non-agricultural uses, do not enter treated areas without protective clothing until soil-incorporation and potting is complete.

Safety & Health

Personal Protective Equipment (Ppe)
  • Long-sleeved shirt and long pants
  • Shoes plus socks
  • Protective eyewear
  • Mixer/loaders and applicators must wear and use a NIOSH-approved particulate respirator with any N, R, or P filter with NIOSH approval number prefix TC-84A (if tank mixing with any oil-based adjuvants, spreaders, or spreader/stickers, use only R or P filters); or a NIOSH-approved powered air purifying respirator with an HE filter with NIOSH approval number prefix TC-21C. (Repeated exposure to high concentrations of microbial proteins can cause allergic sensitization.)

Storage & Handling

Storage And Disposal

Do not contaminate water, food, or feed by storage and disposal.

Pesticide Storage: SOILGARD® is packaged in an airtight, foil-lined, resealable bag designed to protect the fungus from exposure to moisture and oxygen, which can impact storage life. For best results, store in a cool, dry place (preferably refrigerated). In an unopened bag,

SOILGARD® will retain its biological activity for up to one year at room temperature (70°F). Long-term exposure to air and higher temperatures (75°F to 100°F) may accelerate loss of bioactivity. Exposure to temperatures above 100°F for extended periods can be detrimental to SOILGARD®. An open bag of SOILGARD® can be kept for up to 3 months if the bag is tightly resealed and refrigerated (40°F to 45°F). Squeeze excess air from the bag before resealing.

Pesticide Disposal: Wastes resulting from the use of this product must be disposed of on site or at an approved waste disposal facility.

Container Handling: Nonrefillable container. Do not reuse or refill this container. Completely empty bag into application equipment. Then offer for recycling if available or dispose of empty bag in a sanitary landfill, or by incineration, or if allowed by state and local authorities, by burning. If burned, stay out of smoke
