General Information

Ace 840 is a selective pre-emergence herbicide for the control of annual grasses and many broadleaf weeds in grain and silage maize. Ace 840 is absorbed by the shoots and roots of weeds and kills them as they germinate. Ace 840 has been specifically formulated for New Zealand conditions of temperate climate and high organic content soils. Ace 840 should not be used in climatic conditions characterized by long, cold wet periods, or in soils of very low organic content, as crop damage may occur. Do not use on sweetcorn.

Weeds controlled: Commonly occurring annual grass weeds including; summer grass, barnyard grass, bristle grass, green bristle grass, rough bristle grass, seedling Johnson grass, smooth witch grass, witch grass. Broadleaf weeds include; amaranthus spp, black nightshade, chickweed, redroot, Scotch thistle, seedling dock, Shepherd’s purse, stinking mayweed, twin cress. The following weeds are only moderately susceptible: Cornbind, fathen, field pansy, fumitory, spurrey, wild radish, willow weed, wireweed.

Directions For Use

It is an offense for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the New Zealand (Maximum Residue Limits of Agricultural Compounds) Food Standards.

GRAIN AND SILAGE MAIZE

Rate And Timing of Application

2.5 – 3.0 liters in at least 200 liters of water per hectare to a freshly prepared seedbed immediately after planting and before crop emergence. Use the higher rate in clay soils and those with higher organic matter. If desired, Atraflow™ (atrazine) may be added to the tank mix to improve the spectrum of activity. Alternatively, Atraflow or Banvel® (dicamba) may be applied as follow-up post emergence treatment.

Mixing

To ensure mixing pour the correct amount into the partly filled tank and add the remainder of the water while agitating. Agitate thoroughly before and during spraying and before spraying after a stoppage.

Soil Conditions/Rainfall

Best results will be obtained when application is made to a freshly prepared, fine, moist soil, free of trash, with at least 10 mm of rain within 1 week of application. Under drier soil conditions, 30 mm of rain within 2 – 3 weeks is necessary. Application by pre–plant incorporation may be beneficial under very dry conditions.

Soil Residues

Under normal use, soil residues should not carry over to successive crops. In a replant situation when the previous Ace 840 treated crop may have failed for whatever reason, contact your Orion AgriScience representative or merchant for advice before replanting. If establishing pasture in peat soils, cultivate soil before sowing if Ace 840 has been applied to the previous crop.
