General Information

Atraflow is a selective herbicide for the control of some seedling broadleaf weeds in maize, sweetcorn, linseed and established lucerne. Atraflow is absorbed through leaves and roots ensuring a high degree of weed control when used as a post-emergence spray. To obtain the maximum residual effect from Atraflow it should be applied to a smooth clod-free soil. Atraflow can be safely used near tomato, grape and other hormone sensitive crops.

Directions For Use

It is an offense for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds. MAIZE AND SWEETCORN Rate of Application: 3 liters of Atraflow in 220 - 450 liters water per hectare; or 1 – 1.5 liters of Atraflow with 150 – 200 mL of Callisto® or Dominator® and a crop oil adjuvant at 1% of the spray mix (eg, Synoil™). Time of Application: To control emerged annual broadleaf weeds such as fathen, black nightshade, willow weed, redroot and apple of Peru, apply Atraflow as an early post emergence spray to actively growing seedling weeds no greater than 5cm high. Atraflow should not be applied under dry hardened growth conditions, and the addition of a wetting agent at manufacturer’s label rates is essential for post-emergent weed control. Providing the spray has dried on the foliage, light rain after application of Atraflow will not affect the results. At all stages of growth, both maize and sweetcorn are resistant to Atraflow when treated at the recommended rates of application. After treatment: Shallow molding at the time of inter-row cultivation can improve the performance of Atraflow. Under dry conditions smother mold to a depth of 3 cm seven to ten days after spraying. Grass weeds: For pre-emergence control of annual grasses, use the recommended product Dual® Gold, Sylon® 840 or Ace™ according to label directions. Fathen: Some fathen plants may be resistant to products containing atrazine, and the use of Bandit® post-emergence herbicide may be necessary to remove them. LINSEED Rate of Application: 800ml of Atraflow plus 750ml of an MCPA 75% a.i. product eg. Orion MCPA 750, in 150 - 250 liters of water per hectare. Time of Application: To control annual broadleaf weeds such as spurrey, cornbind, willow weed and fumitory, apply the Atraflow / MCPA mixture as a post-emergence spray when the crop is not more than 6cm high. Ideally application should be made when the soil is moist and when weeds are not beyond the two true leaf stage. LUCERNE (Established) Rates of Application: 1.5 liters of Atraflow plus 2 - 3 liters of paraquat 20% a.i. eg. PQ200™ in 200 - 300 liters water per hectare. Time of Application: To control seedling shepherd’s purse, subterranean clover and storksbill, apply to closely grazed lucerne stands during the winter months when the lucerne is completely dormant. Do not apply when frost is still on the foliage, or when ground conditions are excessively wet. CAUTION: Atraflow / paraquat 20% must be applied only to established lucerne stands that are at least one year old. Weed growth should be short, clean and free from soil contamination. Do not spray immediately following heavy grazing – allow a few days for weed growth to freshen up. Avoid excessive boom overlap when spraying. Apply ONLY when lucerne is completely dormant.

Application Methods

Atraflow is non-corrosive and almost non-abrasive. Atraflow can be applied with conventional spraying equipment. Do not use strainers finer than 300 micrometers. Wash equipment thoroughly after use. Band spraying: Specially designed dropper equipment with rowcrop swivel nozzles should be used. Two nozzles per row, one from each side should be angled to give uniform coverage to the recommended bandwidth.

Mixing

As settling out may occur during storage shake well or recirculate before use. Atraflow mixes readily with water. Pour the correct quantity into the partly filled tank then add the remaining water while agitating. The spray mixture should be kept agitated before and during spraying and before spraying after a stoppage. Unused spray mixture will settle overnight. Note: When using mixtures of Atraflow and paraquat 20% a.i., add the Atraflow to the partly filled tank first, mix thoroughly, then add the paraquat and remainder of the water with agitation.

Soil Residues

To minimize soil residues which could affect subsequent crops, areas treated with Atraflow should be plowed and cross-cultivated between crops to ensure maximum dispersal of residues. Because residues may result from the use of Atraflow, certain crops, for example tomatoes, cucurbits, brassicae, lettuce and beans, should not be planted in areas previously treated with Atraflow without first obtaining advice from your local Orion AgriScience representative.

Resistance Management

Atraflow contains atrazine, a group C1 herbicide belonging to the triazine chemical family. Some naturally occurring weeds may become resistant when excessive use of the same herbicide occurs. To prevent or delay the development of resistance, use in tank mixes and/or rotate use with herbicides with a different mode of action. Consult http://resistance.nzpps.org/index.php for alternative modes of action and details of resistance management strategies (if any) for the crops listed on the label.
