Features & Benefits

General Information

Chord is a selective herbicide for the control of buttercups and docks in pasture and cereals. It can also be used in conjunction with glyphosate for weed control in conservation tillage programs. Chord works best in spring when weeds are small and actively growing. Susceptible weeds will stop growing soon after treatment, but damage symptoms may take 2 – 3 weeks to appear.

Applications & Uses

Application Technique
Herbicide Target Species
Spillage

Exclude non-essential people from the area. Wear protective clothing and prevent material from entering waterways. If granules have spilt, moisten to prevent dusting and sweep up. If liquid, absorb spill with inert material such as soil, sand, etc. Place in waste container. Wash area with water, and absorb with further inert material. Dispose of safely to a suitable landfill.

Application Methods

Chord can be applied with conventional boom spraying equipment. Apply in a minimum of 60 liters of water per hectare. Crop injury may result from spray overlap. When starting, slowing or stopping, shut off the spray boom.

Mixing

Add the required quantity of Chord to the spray tank partly filled with water, and maintain agitation through filling and spraying. Use Chord mixtures within 24 hours of preparation as product degradation may occur.

Rainfall

Do NOT spray if rainfall is expected within 4 hours of spraying.

Withholding Period

It is an offense for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds. Do NOT graze treated areas for 7 days after application.

Resistance Management

GROUP B HERBICIDE

Chord belongs to the sulfonylurea chemical group. Some naturally occurring weeds may become resistant when excessive use of the same herbicide occurs. To prevent or delay the development of resistance, use in tank mixes and/or rotate use with herbicides with a different mode of action. Consult http://resistance.nzpps.org/index.php for alternative modes of action and details of resistance management strategies (if any) for the crops listed on the label.

Directions For Use

Do NOT spray pasture or cereal crops that are under stress from drought, frost, water saturated soil, disease or insect damage, as crop damage may occur. Crop damage may also occur if these conditions occur after spraying. Do NOT apply to grass or clover seed crops, or hay crops, nor to crops undersown with clover or lucerne.

Crop / Situation Application Rate Weeds Controlled Critical Comments
Pasture 20 g/ha (Broadcast) 1 g / 10 Liters water applied to 500 sq meters (Knapsack) Buttercups (Annual, Creeping, Giant), Docks Apply in spring. Apply 1 – 2 weeks after grazing so as to maximize exposure of weed seedlings. For docks, spray when in full leaf, and do NOT spray after seed heads begin to emerge or just after grazing. Follow up treatment may be necessary for well established docks and giant buttercup. NOTE: Yellowing and reduction in vigor usually occurs after application. Recovery, particularly of clovers, may take up to 4 months.
Cereals - Wheat, Barley, Oats 20 g/ha Buttercups (Annual, Creeping), Cornbind, Docks Apply after the crop is at the 2 leaf stage, but before the boot stage. Apply with a surfactant such as Synergy™ Wetter Sticker. Best results are obtained when applied to small actively growing weeds before canopy closure (otherwise weeds may only be suppressed).
Conservation Tillage – Cereals, Forage Brassicas, Lucerne, Maize, New Pasture, Peas, Potatoes, Squash Cereals, Forage Brassicas, Lucerne, Maize, New Pasture, Peas, Potatoes, Squash 20 g/ha Buttercups, Docks Use in a tank mix with glyphosate eg. Orion Glyphosate 360, G Force® Max plus penetrant eg. Silmaxx™ or Synergy Penetrant before the crop is sown. Plantback Period: Do NOT sow the crop within 14 daysof applying Chord. NOTE: Some crops may exhibit symptoms of damage, but this is transient and is unlikely to affect crop yield. The growth of perennial ryegrass may be reduced.

Compatibility

Chord is compatible with most commonly used crop protection products. Note: A reduction in long term control of docks has occurred when using tank mixes with 2,4-D or MCPA.

Precautions

APPROVED HANDLER: This product must be under the control of an approved handler during use. STORAGE: Keep out of reach of children. Store in the original, tightly closed container, in a secure place. Storage of certain quantities of this product trigger specific storage requirements (Refer to Safety Note). When stored appropriately this product should show no significant degradation for two years from the date of manufacture. Contact your supplier for further information about the use of product that is older than this. PERSONAL PROTECTION: Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid inhalation of dust or spray mist. When mixing or applying, wear overalls, boots, gloves and eye protection. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using. Remove protective clothing and wash hands and face thoroughly before meals and after work. EQUIPMENT: Apply with well maintained and calibrated spray equipment. DISPOSAL: Dispose of this product only by using in accordance with this label, or at a suitable landfill. Dispose of packaging to a suitable landfill. Do not burn. Do not use packaging for any other purpose. ENVIRONMENTAL: Use this product carefully. Do not contaminate aquatic environments with product, spray drift or packaging. Spray drift or equipment contamination may cause serious damage to desirable plants. Do not allow spray drift outside the target area to occur. Do not use or flush equipment near to desirable plants or their roots. Do not use the same equipment to apply other chemicals to susceptible crops unless thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated.

Spray Equipment Decontamination

To prevent injury to subsequently sprayed sensitive crops, thoroughly decontaminate spraying equipment immediately after spraying: 1. Drain tank and flush tank, boom and hoses with clean water for at least 10 minutes. 2. Fill tank with clean water and 1 liter chlorine bleach (3% sodium hypochlorite) per 100 liters water. Keep agitation system running while flushing hoses and boom, then drain. 3. Repeat step 2. 4. Remove and clean nozzles, filters and screens separately. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and flush through hoses and boom to remove traces of chlorine.
