General Information

Corvette is a selective herbicide for the control of a wide range of annual and perennial grasses and broadleaf weeds in grain and silage maize. Corvette is rapidly absorbed by foliage, and is then translocated throughout the weed. Weeds stop growing immediately. Leaf discoloration, followed by dieback, then occurs, spreading slowly throughout the weed. Caution: Do NOT use on sweetcorn, popcorn, or field maize grown for seed unless tested for crop safety in NZ. Do NOT apply to maize previously treated with a soil-applied organophosphate insecticide, and do NOT apply within 7 days (before or after) of a foliar applied organophosphate insecticide, as severe crop injury may result. Do NOT apply to maize greater than 500 mm in height as severe crop injury may result. Do NOT apply into the maize whorls as crop damage may occur.

Applications & Uses

Application Technique
Herbicide Target Species
Spillage

Exclude non-essential people from the area. Wear protective clothing and prevent material from entering waterways. Moisten to prevent dusting and sweep up. Place in waste container. Wash area with water, and absorb with inert material. Dispose of safely to a suitable landfill .

Weeds Controlled

Grasses: Barnyard Grass, Bristle Grass, Couch, Crowfoot Grass, Kikuyu, Pasture Grasses (volunteers), Rough Bristle Grass, Smooth Witchgrass, Summer Grass, Wild Oats. Broadleaf Weeds: Bathhurst Burr, Black Nightshade, Groundsel, Fathen, Fumitory, Redroot, Sow Thistle, Thorn Apple, Twincress, Water Pepper, Wild Portulaca, Willow Weed.

Weeds Suppressed

Grasses: Mercer Grass. Broadleaf Weeds: Apple of Peru, Bindweed, Buttercup, Californian Thistle, Chicory, Dock, Clover, Oxalis, Potatoes (volunteers), Scotch Thistle.

Resistance Management

Corvette belongs to the sulfonylurea chemical group. Some naturally occurring weeds may become resistant when excessive use of the same herbicide occurs. To prevent or delay the development of resistance, use in tank mixes and/or rotate use with herbicides with a different mode of action. Consult http://resistance.nzpps.org/index.php for alternative modes of action and details of resistance management strategies (if any) for the crops listed on the label.

Withholding Period

It is an offense for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds.

Silage Maize: 56 days from the last application

Soil Residues

To minimize soil residues, treated areas should be deeply cross cultivated to ensure maximum dispersal of residues. Ryegrass and small grain cereals should not be sown in areas treated within the previous 5 months.

Directions For Use

CULTIVATION

Do not cultivate during the 10 days before a Corvette application as this may decrease weed control by placing weeds under stress. The optimum timing for cultivation or side dressing of fertilizer is 7 – 14 days after a Corvette application.

Weeds Controlled Rate per Hectare Critical Comments
Annual Grasses Broadleaf Weed 50 – 80 g + Synoil™ 500 mL / 100 L Use the lower rate only if following a pre-emergence herbicide application and if weed pressure is low. Add a suitable tank mix herbicide with Corvette and use in soil areas where the organic matter level is low to medium. On summer grass, use 1L/100L of Synoil.
Couch 80 g + Synoil 500 mL / 100 L Apply when sufficient Couch foliage is present for good coverage
Mercer Grass (suppression) 110 g + Synoil 500 mL / 100 L Apply when sufficient Mercer Grass foliage is present for good coverage. Shading from a good crop canopy after application will improve control. In the following season, a subsequent application will improve overall Mercer Grass control.
Oxalis (suppression) 80 - 110 g + Synoil 500 mL / 100 L The higher rate will improve control.

Application Timing

Broadleaf Weeds: For best results, apply before weeds have reached the 4 true leaf stage, (75 to 100mm). Weeds larger than 4 true leaf stage may only be suppressed. Grass Weeds: Apply when there is sufficient leaf area for good uptake but before the grass has formed a thick layer. Apply to summer grass at a maximum of three tillers or 75mm in length. The maize crop growth stage best for application is between the 2 and 8 leaf stage when the crop is growing vigorously without moisture stress. Maize stressed due to weather conditions may show a temporary yellowing or crop stunting.

Application Methods

Apply evenly to the weed canopy using ground based spray equipment at a water rate of 100 - 300 liters per hectare. Use the higher water rate where weeds are dense. Position the boom nozzles between the rows of the maize for direct coverage of weeds. The use of nozzles on droppers from the boom will improve target weed coverage.

Mixing

Corvette mixes readily with water. Add the required amount of Corvette to the partly filled spray tank, and top up with water. Keep mechanical agitator or bypass running while filling, during spraying and before recommencing spraying after a stoppage. Use the spray mix within 24 hours of mixing. If tank mixing with other herbicides or Synoil, add these after Corvette is thoroughly mixed.

Compatibility

Corvette is compatible in tank mixtures with the following post-emergence herbicides: Atrazine, e.g., Atraflow™, and mesotrione, e.g. Callisto®. Do NOT use with products containing dicamba, e.g. Bandit® (unless the crop is more than 300 mm tall, NO adjuvant is used, and the product is applied with droppers).

Precautions

APPROVED HANDLER: This product must be under the control of an approved handler during use. STORAGE: Keep out of reach of children. Store in the original, tightly closed container, in a secure place. Storage of certain quantities of this product trigger specific storage requirements (Refer to Safety Note). When stored appropriately this product should show no significant degradation for two years from the date of manufacture. Contact your supplier for further information about the use of product that is older than this. PERSONAL PROTECTION: Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid inhalation of dust or spray mist. When mixing or applying, wear overalls, boots, gloves and eye protection. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using. Remove protective clothing and wash hands and face thoroughly before meals and after work. EQUIPMENT: Apply with well maintained and calibrated spray equipment. DISPOSAL: Dispose of this product only by using in accordance with this label, or at a suitable landfill. Do not burn. Triple rinse container and add rinsate to the spray tank. Dispose of container to a suitable landfill. Do not burn. Do not use container for any other purpose. ENVIRONMENTAL: Use this product carefully. Do not contaminate aquatic environments with product, spray drift or packaging. Spray drift or equipment contamination may cause serious damage to desirable plants. Do not allow spray drift outside the target area to occur.

Spray Equipment Decontamination

To prevent injury to subsequently sprayed sensitive crops, thoroughly decontaminate spraying equipment immediately after spraying:

1. Drain tank and flush tank, boom and hoses with clean water for at least 10 minutes.

2. Fill tank with clean water and 1 liter chlorine bleach (3% sodium hypochlorite) per 100 liters water. Keep agitation system running while flushing hoses and boom, then drain.

3. Repeat step 2.

4. Remove and clean nozzles, filters and screens separately. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and flush through hoses and boom to remove traces of chlorine.

Weather Conditions

Warm moist conditions and adequate soil moisture, both before and after application, will improve control. Maize stressed due to weather conditions may show a temporary yellowing or crop stunting. Corvette is rainfast 6 hours after application.
