Exclude non-essential people from the area. Wear protective clothing and prevent material from entering waterways. Absorb spill with inert material such as soil, sand, etc, and place in a waste container. Wash area with water, and absorb with further inert material. Dispose of safely to a suitable landfill.

Directions For Use

Beware: Apply this product carefully. Thoroughly decontaminate equipment after use. Spray drift or equipment contamination may cause serious damage to desirable plants. For aerial application, to minimize damage to susceptible vegetation within 500 meters, use low drift nozzles which minimize the production of small droplets (100 microns). Preferably spray in a constant light breeze that is away from sensitive crops.

Crop Weeds Controlled Rate Critical Comments
Fodder Brassicas Black nightshade, fathen, redroot (suppression only), thornapple 350 mL/ ha + 500 mL/100L Synoil™ Apply to actively growing 2 – 8 true leaf seedlings. The timing of the application is determined by the growth stage and activity of the weeds rather that the crop.
Radiata Pine Broom, gorse Fireweed, fleabane, foxglove, ragwort, tree lucerne, wattles, wooly nightshade Thistles 2 – 2.5 L/ ha + 500 mL/ha Silmaxx™ 2 L/ha 1 L/ha For maximum suppression, apply during the period of soft active growth when there is good soil moisture. For broom and gorse, apply when between 10 – 50 cm high. Application outside this size may result in reduced suppression. For effective weed suppression, do NOT apply beyond the end of February in the growth season. In some situations, retreatment the following season may be beneficial. New growth from stumps or coppicing may not be suppressed. Twisting of needles or stems may occur. This is transient and will have no long term effect on the tree.

Application Methods

Element can be applied with conventional spraying equipment. Boom spraying: Apply in 100 – 300 liters water/ha. Aerial spraying (Radiata pine only): Apply in a minimum of 150 liters water/ha using the half overlap – opposite pass technique. Spot spraying (Radiata pine only): Use 200 mL / 10 L and apply 10 mL per square meter over the tree. Do NOT use with Silmaxx. Use pressure of 1000 – 2000 kPa through a No. 6 – 8 tip, and apply to give full coverage.

Mixing

Pour the correct amount into the partly filled tank and add the remainder of the water while agitating. Where a spraying oil or penetrant is added, add this last to minimize foaming. Agitate thoroughly before and during spraying and before spraying after a stoppage.

Soil Residues

Do NOT plant beans, cucurbits, lucerne, peas, potatoes, tomatoes, or other crops susceptible to picloram residues for at least 1 year after spraying. In situations of low rainfall or in heavy, poor draining soils, susceptible crops should NOT be planted for at least 2 years. For clovers, allow at least 6 months before planting, and deep plow and surface cultivate before sowing to minimize residues. Cereal crops may be drilled anytime after application. Avoid multiple applications as this can result in residue build up. For advice, contact your Orion Agriscience field representative.

Withholding Period

It is an offense for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds. Other than for animal safety or crop rotation purposes, a withholding period is not required when used as directed. Poisonous plants, e.g. ragwort, may become more palatable after spraying, and livestock should be kept out until plants have died down.

Resistance Management

GROUP O3 HERBICIDE

Element contains the active ingredients picloram and clopyralid, both of which belong to the pyridine carboxylic acid chemical family. Some naturally occurring weeds may become resistant when excessive use of the same herbicide occurs. To prevent or delay the development of resistance, use in tank mixes and/or rotate use with herbicides with a different mode of action. Consult http://resistance.nzpps.org/index.php for alternative modes of action and details of resistance management strategies (if any) for the crops listed on the label.
