General Information

Gesamil 500FW is a selective herbicide for the pre-emergence control of many annual broadleaf and grass weeds. When applied according to the directions Gesamil 500FW will give prolonged control of weeds without tainting or harming the crop. Gesamil 500FW is effective on germinating weed seedlings and prevents weed competition with the establishing crop. Gesamil 500FW is not effective on deep -rooted perennial weeds such a Californian thistle, dock and couch. Soil Conditions: For best results with Gesamil 500FW prepare a fine firm seedbed free from clods and undecayed vegetation. Soil Moisture: Adequate soil moisture is necessary if Gesamil 500FW is to be effective. If dry conditions are being experienced then moisture should be applied prior to application of Gesamil 500FW. Light rain or light irrigation immediately after application will also improve results.

Rates And Times of Application

Carrots and Parsnips: For clay soils high in organic matter use 4 liters Gesamil 500FW per hectare. For sandy or silty soils use 2 liters Gesamil 500FW per hectare. Do not apply on very light soils with very little organic matter. Pinus Species: (except small seeded species such as P. contorta, P. mugo, P. sylvestris and P. uncinata): Apply 2 liters Gesamil 500FW per hectare either as a post-sowing application (within 2 - 3 days of sowing) or to the freshly weeded seedbed one month after total emergence of the pines. Douglas Fir: Apply 2 liters Gesamil 500FW per hectare as a post-emergence crop spray when crop seedlings are at least 6 weeks old and the seedbed is freshly weeded. Time of Application: Gesamil 500FW must be applied within 2 -3 days of sowing and prior to the emergence of weeds or seedling crop. Gesamil 500FW can be applied to established carrots and parsnips provided that weeds are not present or to freshly weeded conifers one month after emergence. In carrots and parsnips if weeds have germinated use Gesagard® 500 FW. Volume of Application: Apply in 500 liters of water per hectare.

Application Methods

Gesamil 500FW can be applied with conventional ground spraying equipment. Care should be taken to avoid excessive overlapping. Gesamil 500FW is non-corrosive and almost non-abrasive. Do not use strainers finer than 300 micrometers. Wash equipment thoroughly after use.

Mixing

Gesamil 500FW mixes readily with water. To ensure a uniform suspension pour the correct amount into the partly filled tank and whilst stirring add the remainder of the water. Agitate thoroughly before and during spraying and before spraying after a stoppage.

Soil Residues

Subsequent crops may be safely planted after 4 - 5 months. Cultivation by plowing to a depth of 15 cm is recommended to remove any residue of Gesamil 500FW from the soil surface.

Resistance Management

GROUP C1 HERBICIDE

Gesamil 500FW contains propazine, a group C1 herbicide belonging to the triazine chemical family. Some naturally occurring weeds may become resistant when excessive use of the same herbicide occurs. To prevent or delay the development of resistance, use in tank mixes and/or rotate use with herbicides with a different mode of action. Consult http://resistance.nzpps.org/index.php for alternative modes of action and details of resistance management strategies (if any) for the crops listed on the label.
