Applications & Uses

Application Technique
Application Methods

APPLICATION METHODS Compass can be applied with conventional ground and aerial spraying equipment. Use higher water rates in dense or advanced crops, especially in dry weather. Ground: Apply in at least 200 liters of water per hectare. For onions, use at least 1000 liters of water per hectare. Aerial: Apply in at least 50 liters of water per hectare.

Mixing

Pour the correct quantity into the partly filled tank then add the remaining water while agitating. The spray mixture should be kept agitated before and during spraying and before spraying after a stoppage.

Resistance Management

GROUP 3 FUNGICIDE

Compass is a member of the Demethylation Inhibitors (DMI) group of fungicides. Resistance to this and other DMI fungicides could develop from excessive use. To minimize this risk, use strictly in accordance with label instructions and resistance management strategies that exist for any diseases listed on the label. In cereals and ryegrass seed crops, use a maximum of 3 DMI applications (including seed treatment) per crop at the full recommended label rate. In stonefruit, use a maximum of 3 DMI applications per season, at the full recommended label rate, preferably in a mixture with a fungicide with a different mode of action. Consult http://resistance.nzpps.org/index.php for alternative modes of action and details of resistance management strategies (if any) for the crops listed on the label.

Withholding Periods

It is an offense for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the New Zealand (Maximum Residues Limits of Agricultural Compounds) Food Standards.

  • Cereals 49 days Ryegrass
  • Seed Crops 30 days
  • Peas 14 days
  • Onions 35 days
  • Fodder Cereals 28 days
  • Stonefruit 1 day Pasture Animals (including lactating animals) may be reintroduced into treated pasture 10 days after application. Animals for slaughter must be placed on clean pasture for 6 days prior to slaughter. Pasture is considered clean from residues 45 days after treatment. Where pasture cannot be guaranteed clean, such as in aerial applications, animals must not be sent for slaughter for 51 days after treatment of pasture.

Rates And Timing of Application
Crop Disease Rate per Hectare Critical Comments
Barley Scald, Net Blotch, Spot Blotch, Ramularia or Ovularia Leaf Spot, Leaf Rust. Ear Disease Complex 440 mL Apply on first appearance of disease. A further application may be necessary 3 – 4 weeks later if reinfection occurs or disease pressure remains high. Apply to fully emerged ears. Compass may cause yellowing when applied with emulsifiable concentrate herbicide formulations.
Oats Crown Rust 440 mL Apply on first appearance of disease. A further application may be necessary 3 – 4 weeks later if reinfection occurs or disease pressure remains high.
Wheat Stripe Rust, Leaf Rust, Powdery Mildew, Glume Blotch, Speckled Leaf Blotch. Ear Disease Complex 440 mL Apply on first appearance of disease. A further application may be necessary 3 – 4 weeks later if reinfection occurs or disease pressure remains high. Apply to fully emerged ears. Compass may cause yellow leaf spotting to some durum wheats, particularly Tara, when applied after head emergence
Onions White Rot 875 mL Apply first application 6 – 8 weeks after sowing, and follow with two further applications at 3 – 4 week intervals.
Peas Powdery Mildew 145 mL Apply as a preventative spray at flowering or at the first sign of disease. A further application may be necessary 14 days later if disease pressure remains high.
Ryegrass Seed Crops Crown Rust, Stem Rust. Blind Seed Disease 440 mL Apply on first appearance of disease. A further application may be necessary 3 – 4 weeks later if reinfection occurs or disease pressure remains high. Apply first application at the start of flowering, and follow with a further application 10 – 14 days later.
Stonefruit Brown Rot (Blossom Blight) 23 mL / 100L water (min 465 mL/ha) Apply at 7 – 10 day intervals from pink to shuck fall. Shorter intervals may be needed in wet weather. Use non DMI fungicides in the preharvest period. OR Apply 2 – 3 applications at 7 – 10 day intervals in the preharvest period. Use non DMI fungicides earlier in the season.
Pasture Rust, Fusarium 440 mL Add Silmaxx™ penetrant at 100 mL / 100L (ground) or 200 mL / 100L (aerial) Apply on first appearance of disease. A further application may be necessary if disease pressure remains high. Do NOT reapply at less than a 28 day interval, or more than twice per season. Ensure complete coverage of grazed areas. Do NOT apply when temperatures are above 20ºC, or in wind speed greater than 12 Kph.

For stonefruit, the rates suggested are for high volume spraying to run off. For concentrate spraying, adjust dilution rate accordingly.
