Features & Benefits

General Information

Quasar is a selective herbicide that will control a range of emerged broadleaf weeds in new pasture and other crops

Applications & Uses

Application Technique
Herbicide Target Species
Spillage

Exclude non-essential people from the area. Wear protective clothing and prevent material from entering waterways. Absorb spill with inert material such as soil, sand, etc, and place in a waste container. Wash area with water, and absorb with further inert material. Dispose of safely to a suitable landfill.

Weeds Controlled
  • Weeds controlled as seedlings: Black nightshade, buttercups (annual), chamomiles, charlock, chickweed, cleavers, cornbind, cut-leaved geranium, fathen, field madder, galinsoga, hedge mustard, mayweeds, nettle, nodding thistle, penny cress, redroot, scarlet pimpernel, scotch thistle, shepherds purse, sow thistle, spurrey, stinking mayweed, storksbill, thorn apple, twin cress, variegated thistle, welted thistle, wild radish, wild turnip, willow weed, winged thistle
  • Moderately susceptible weeds: Docks (seedling only), fumitory, wireweed
  • Resistant weeds: Clovers, dandelion, dead nettle, field pansy, grasses (all), hawkbit, hawksbeard, henbit, sorrel, speedwells, yarrow. All deep rooted perennial weeds
Directions For Use

Quasar is best applied after a period of warm, humid weather (more than 3 days), and when weeds are actively growing and still in the seedling stage (2 – 4 leaf). Do NOT apply onto foliage which is already wet, or apply if frost is expected. High water rates (as specified) must be used to ensure full coverage of the weeds.

Application Methods

Boom spraying: Apply in 300 – 500 liters water/ha. Low volume CDA application techniques are not recommended.

Mixing

Add the required quantity of Quasar to the spray tank partly filled with water, and maintain agitation through filling and spraying. Where a surfactant is added, add this last to minimize foaming.

Application Rate
Crop Rate Timing Critical Comments
Cereals 5 L/ha in 170 – 500 L of water After crop have 4 true leaves and when weeds are small. If undersown with clover, apply after the clover has 2 true trifoliate leaves. Do NOT apply to crops undersown with lucerne. To reduce chances of root absorption, more than 50% of the ground must have complete vegetation cover. Use with a surfactant such as Synergy™ Wetter Sticker at label rates
White Clover Seed Crops 5 – 6 L/ha in 500 L (min) of water In spring or autumn after 2 trifoliate leaves have formed and before flowering, and when weeds are small. Use with a surfactant such as Synergy™ Wetter Sticker at label rates. Use the high water rate and large droplets to ensure penetration into the weed crown. For best results, spray during periods of warm humid weather. PQ200, applied at least 2 weeks prior to Quasar, will improve results provided that weeds are actively growing at the time of the Quasar treatment.
Pasture – New and Established 5 – 7.5 L/ha in 300 – 500 L of water When clover has 1 – 2 trifoliate leaves and weeds are at the 4 – 6 leaf stage. Use with a surfactant such as Synergy™ Wetter Sticker at label rates
Peas 5 L/ha in 300 – 500 L of water When crop is at 5 – 7 node stage (8 – 18 cm high) and when weeds are at the 4 leaf stage. Do NOT use a surfactant. Some twisting of the peas may occur, but the crop will grow out of this.

Withholding Period

It is an offense for users of this product to cause residues exceeding the relevant MRL in the Food Notice: Maximum Residue Levels for Agricultural Compounds. Poisonous plants can become more palatable after spraying. For animal safety reasons, stock should be kept away from treated areas for 2 weeks or until any poisonous plants have died down.

Rainfall

Do not spray if rainfall is expected within 8 hours of spraying.

Resistance Management

GROUP O1 HERBICIDE

GROUP C3 HERBICIDE

Quasar contains MCPB, a group O1 herbicide belonging to the phenoxy chemical family, and bentazone, a group C3 herbicide belonging to the benzothiadiazinone chemical family. Some naturally occurring weeds may become resistant when excessive use of the same herbicide occurs. To prevent or delay the development of resistance, use in tank mixes and/or rotate use with herbicides with a different mode of action. Consult http:// resistance.nzpps.org/index.php for alternative modes of action and details of resistance management strategies (if any) for the crops listed on the label.
