Building paints: Fortcryl 3140 is an associative acrylic thickener with good ability to promote hydrophobic associations with acrylic or styrene acrylic binders, as well as with the other components used in acrylic latex paints. In acrylic latex paint formulations where non-associative thickeners are used, such as CMC (carboxy-methyl-cellulose) or HEC (hydroxy-ethyl-cellulose), it is very common for deficiencies in the application, such as excessive splashing, low transfer and anomalies. “orange peel” or run-off type leveling. Also in this case, the ink can show excessive phase separation, which is called syneresis. Fortcryl 3140 completely modifies the rheological behavior of acrylic latex paints, in such a way that they present a pseudoplastic characteristic at low shear rate and Newtonian characteristic at high shear stress. The main advantages observed when using Fortcryl 3140 in the manufacture of acrylic latex paints are: Low splash / Good leveling / Good transfer / Stability in packaging / Good viscosity in high-shear / Practicality in paint production. Fortcryl 3140 was developed with the aim of avoiding complicated thickener combinations to obtain “Low” and “High-Shear” viscosities. Thus, the Fortcryl 3140 can be used both in the milling base and in the completion, making the use of other thickeners unnecessary , as it has a hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance. If more “Low-Shear” is needed, the Fortcryl 3140 can be combined with the Fortcryl 1960.
