Fortcryl 3160 is an associative acrylic thickener with good ability to promote hydrophobic associations with acrylic or styrene acrylic binders, as well as with other components used in acrylic latex paints. In acrylic latex paint formulations where non-associative thickeners are used, such as CMC (carboxy-methyl-cellulose) or HEC (hydroxy-ethyl-cellulose), it is very common for deficiencies in the application, such as excessive splashing, low transfer and anomalies. “orange peel” or run-off type leveling. Also in this case, the paint can show excessive phase separation, which is called synerisis. Fortcryl 3160 completely modifies the rheological behavior of acrylic latex paints in such a way that, these have a pseudoplastic characteristic at low shear rate and slightly Newtonian at high shear stress. The main advantages observed when using Fortcryl 3160 combined with Fortcryl 1940 in the manufacture of acrylic latex paints are: ✓ Low splash ✓ Good leveling ✓ Good transfer ✓ Packaging stability ✓ Good viscosity in high-shear ✓ Practicality in production of paints ✓ High viscosity in “Low-Shear” It was developed in order to avoid complicated combinations of thickeners (such as CMC or HEC) to obtain viscosities in “Low” and “High-Shear”. Thus, it can be used both in the milling base and in the completion, making the use of other thickeners unnecessary, because it has a hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance in such a way that the acrylic latex paint presents “High” and mainly “Low-Shear”. If a higher “High-Shear” is needed, the Fortcryl 3160 can be combined with the Fortcryl 1940. Any questions consult the Technical Bulletin of Fortcryl 1940 or contact our technical department. To facilitate the incorporation of Fortcryl 3160 with the paint, it is advisable to dilute it in water beforehand. It is also important to note that the pre-mix composed of pigments/fillers, additives and acrylic resin, is in alkaline pH before the entry of Fortcryl 3160. of local raw materials and application processes and evaluations, please consult our technical department.
