FILCO® 661 is a bisphenolic, unsaturated polyester resin available in powder form, specifically employed as a binder for chopped strand mat applications. It presents as a light yellow powder. Notable product characteristics include a very high molecular weight, rapid solubility in styrene, a high binding capacity for glass fibers, particularly in 'hot melt' operating conditions, and excellent compatibility with unsaturated polyester matrices.

Applications

FILCO® 661 is available at different contents of anticaking agents 2,5-5% of FILCO® 661 on the glass weight is normally required according to the required stiffness for glass mat. Water as fine mist can be sprayed to help FILCO® 661 to stick to glass fibre. After application of FILCO 661, glass mat is stoved at 180-210°C for 1-2 minutes; this operation allows water to evaporate and melts FILCO® 661, which accumulates at the contact points of glass strands, binding them.
