Trapylen® 186 S

1 of 74 products in this brand
Trapylen® 186 S is a chlorinated polypropylene with a higher chlorine content compared to other Trapylen® grades. It demonstrates good compatibility with other resins and polymers, excellent pigment wetting, and forms a high-gloss, chemically resistant film. The primary merit of Trapylen® 186 S lies in its outstanding adhesion to untreated polypropylene, PP/EPDM thermoplastic rubber, and, with limitations, polyethylene.

Functions: Adhesion Promoter, Binder & Resin, Coupling Agent

Compatible Substrates & Surfaces: Polyethylene (PE), Polypropylene (PP)

Compatible Polymers & Resins: Natural Rubbers (NR), Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR)

Features & Benefits

Product Highlights
  • TRAPYLEN® 186 S has a higher chlorine content compared to other TRAYPLEN® grades which results in a good compatibility with other resins and polymers and ex- cellent pigment wetting.
  • The cured film has a high gloss and very good chemical and aging resistance.
  • The main merit of TRAPYLEN® 186 S is the outstanding adhesion on untreated polypropylene, PP/EPDM thermoplastic rubber and - with limitations - on polyethylene.
  • The resistance against fatty oil and grease is limited and must be compensated by using it with low chlorinated TRAPYLEN® grades.
  • It is only recommended as a binder resin for screen printing inks and as an adhesion promoter in plastic paints and solvent based contact adhesives on NR/SBR/polychlo-
  • roprene basis.

Solubility and Dissolving Process

Dissolving process: Place TRAYPLEN® 186 S and solvent into a dissolver and stir the resin to dissolve it by friction. The temperature of the system should be raised to 60 °C and held there for at least 3 hours. After finishing the dissolving process adjust the solids content to e.g. 60 % and filter the solution.
