Lost Circulation Material (LCM)
In oil or gas well drilling, lost circulation occurs when drilling fluid (commonly referred to as “MUD”) flows into one or more geological formations instead of returning up the borehole. Mica is one of the preferred LCM mud chemicals used to prevent this costly loss of circulation and seepage downhole.
Pacer Minerals’ LCM Mica is a naturally occurring mineral that is added to seal-off these lost circulation zones and to regain fluid circulation. The platy structure facilitates the overlapping of particles to form a layer or wall that acts as a sealant to bridge the openings into underground porous formations.
Pacer Minerals offers the energy sector’s most extensive line of muscovite mica formulated specifically for LCM applications to effectively seal costly loss zones in drilling operations.
- Advatages
- Suitable for both oil & water-based drilling muds
- Effective in horizontal, directional & vertical drilling applications
- Improves sample recovery & formation pressure control
- Cuttings are dropped more easily in a surface disposal area
- Chemically inert except to hydrofluoric and concentrated sulfuric acids
- Used to treat all forms of loss circulation quickly & efficiently
- Flat, flakey structure aides in lubrication & reduces wear on drilling equipment
- Compatible with other LCM products
- Environmentally friendly & without heavy metals
