- Advantages
- Practically compatible with all types of alkyd resins.
- Addition of Patadd DA786 forms a strong water-alkyd bond resulting in longer stability.
- It imparts high viscosity to the system and thereby reduces settling.
- No rusting and water separation on storage as well as on thinning down.
- Since pigment binder ratio remains unchanged, no adverse effect on final performance of the coating.
- No reduction of gloss and hardness.
- Cost reduction
Applications & Uses
- Applications
- Compatible Polymers & Resins
- Application
The use of “PATADD DA786” is particularly recommended for heavy pigments such as red lead, barites, iron oxides, etc. as these pigments quickly form a hard deposit which often cannot be brought back into suspension. Because of its high surface activity, PATADD DA786 keeps these pigments in suspension. If slight sedimentation takes place, sediments can be stirred back into suspension without any difficulty.
- Application
Offers excellent gloss retention, stable viscosity, no syneresis and also gives anti-settling & anti-sagging agent in primers & high loaded systems.
- Method of Application
Due to its liquid form, the incorporation of PATADD DA786 is very easy. While it can be added to the paints at any stage of manufacturing, addition of PATADD DA786, at the grinding stage is more effective.
- Dosage
The quantity required depends on the nature of the pigments and on the types of binders used. It is well known that lightweight pigments require less anti-settling agent than heavy pigments. In the same way, less PATADD DA786 is required if binders are used. Binders significantly hinder the sedimentation of pigments due to the size of their molecules. The right quantity could be determined by experiments. Over dosage should be avoided as it might cause side effects like disturbance in flow or delay in drying etc. The recommended initial quantity is about 0.1 % to 0.25 %. This may gradually be increased if the required effect is not obtained. Iron oxide paints require an average of 0.5 % of PATADD DA786 while certain grades require up to 1 % Due to the great variety of compounds used in modern coatings, it is practically impossible to give exact figures or to predict the behavior of PATADD DA786 in every formulation. After a few tests, users will easily find the exact percentage necessary for obtaining the best results. When use as emulsifier for water incorporation suggested dosages are 0.5 -1.0% on total formulation
