Properties

PAT-ADD AF 21 is water-dispersible, but requires strong incorporation forces in order to be properly dispersed. PAT-ADD AF 21 is most suitable for use in high PVC-dispersion paints, flat paints and pigment dispersions.

Benefits
  • Most effective defoamer, so requires only low dosages
  • Most effective in knocking down foam; best to avoid any presence of “rest-foam”
  • Strongly effective in combating foaming as generated by organic surfactants
  • Good shelf stability
  • Universal usage for dispersion paints and aqueous colorants

Application

Strong defoaming, easy incorporation, accurate dosage. Dispersion of hydrophobes in a mineral oil compound with polysiloxane.

Dosage & Addition

The optimal amount of PAT-ADD AF 21 to be used is system related, but generally is between 0,1 and 0,5% PAT-ADD AF 21, calculated on the total weight of the foaming formulation. The product needs proper incorporation conditions; it is recommended to add part of the required dosage prior to pigment dispersion and the remaining half immediately after dispersion, straight to the mill-base or during let-down, using effective mixing. Improper mixing may result in insufficient defoaming action and may cause side effects such as effecting gloss or film appearance. The optimum concentration to be used depends on the individual requirements and conditions.
