PolyCloroTriFluoroEthylene (PCTFE) is a melt-processable homopolymer in which one fluorine atom of the PTFE structure is substituted by a chlorine atom. This atom replacement gives some advantages to PCTFE such as transparency, lower gas permeability, and higher mechanical strength to the detriment of a higher coefficient of friction over PTFE. The amount of crystallinity of PTCFE may be controlled by its thermal history, especially the cooling speed during processing. Low crystalline PCTFE has a lower density, is more elastic, and optically clear.
