Identification & Functionality

Features & Benefits

Features
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Excellent protection to underground structures
  • Good abrasion resistance
  • Excellent adhesion to concrete, metal, and other common building materials
  • Excellent penetration into cracks even hairline cracks
Special Features
  • Interactive technology: the interactive nature of the emulsion allows it to react on contact with the alkali environment of the concrete and soluble salts such as chloride and sulfate ions, by forming an insoluble polymer gel which continues to cure with the rest of the material in film form, thus becoming an integral part of coating itself
  • moisture tolerant: moist and wet surfaces can be treated (no standing water). This material usually requires nominal surface preparation by removing dirt, dust, debris by sweeping and / or power washing.
  • Excellent water vapor permeability: unlike most epoxies, this non-penetrating sealer / coating shows an exceptionally high water vapor permeability which, coupled with low water absorption and low chloride penetration, makes it suitable for wide range of applications over different surfaces including those where it is vital that a sealer be able to allow the passage of water vapor out of the substrate (concrete). Otherwise, trapped water may cause problems such as spalling.
  • Easy application: single component and very low viscosity of this material coupled with good surface wetting and reduced surface tension properties allows for easy and reliable application by using simple tools such as brushes, squeegees, rollers and sprayers. This assures a continuous and thorough surface coverage including good penetration through fine hairline cracks.
  • Environmentally compatible and applicator friendly: this waterbased material is environment friendly, has low application odor and is very easy to apply without the need for special tools or equipment.

Applications & Uses

Application Method
Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Recommended Uses

As a protection to concrete, asphalt covered decks, masonry walls and other surfaces, from ingress of chloride ion and other salts, acids, alkalis, water absorption, freeze thaw scaling, damage from petroleum products and other contaminants In chemical plants and sewage treatment facilities as a maintenance coating subjected to aggressive environment (chemicals and fumes). Used as a tie coat for aggregated epoxy or urethane systems. As a dustproof, abrasion resistant sealer for exposed concrete including industrial and commercial applications.

Limitations

Being an emulsion PENNSEALER EE-CT must be kept from freezing and can not be applied at temperatures at or below freezing point. Not recommended for continuous immersion in aromatic solvents, ketones and strong oxidizing acids. This material is not suitable for use in contact with potable water.

Surface Preparation

Remove all loose material, dust, dirt and grease. Surface must be clean with no standing water. The presence of moisture in the substrate (such as concrete not fully cured) will not be detrimental to the performance of this product. Consult PennKote for details not outlined in this section.

Applications

By spraying, roller or squeegee brush . Conventional airless spray or low pressure sprayers may be used This is a single component material and needs no mixing or blending. It may however, be advisable to stir each unit opened prior to use to ensure no settlement has occurred or separation of the material due to prolonged storage.

Curing & Drying

Allow material to cure until dry at ambient temperature of 38°F or higher. Curing times will be affected by relative humidity, temperature and air flow. The following times will vary with conditions present on job at time of application, applied at standard coverage rates. The rates below should be used as guidelines only.

Clean-up

Uncured material can be cleaned using light soap and water. Cured material is best removed by mechanical means.
