- Date palms need hot growing conditions and are found in huge quantities in many regions roughly grouped around the equator, but in terms of exports to developed nations the main origins are Pakistan, the Middle East and North Africa.
- Many varieties of dates exist worldwide, and these can be roughly divided between soft, semi-dry and dry groups. The dates in these groups have varying Sucrose, Fructose and Glucose sugar contents giving them slightly differing flavors and keeping properties. In the UK, Soft and Semi-dry varieties, such as Deglet Nour and Medjool, tend to be sold in retail packs for snacking whereas the dryer Aseel or Sayer pitted dates tend to be more used for processing and ingredients.
- Using mainly Aseel or Sayer variety dried pitted dates we can produce a range of diced dates and date paste/chopped date paste for ingredients customers. These products are widely used in bakery, breakfast cereals, snacking or protein bars, sauces, chutneys and confectionery.
- The dates we import are carefully pitted (date stones removed) at origin by hand at the plants of our accredited and approved suppliers. However, we know hand pitting can never be 100% effective so one of the most important processes during production is the mechanical, X-ray and laser screening of the dates on our newly installed production line to carefully identify and remove any remaining fruit pits and other foreign bodies and to ensure we achieve the highest quality of final products. Using this line we can also inspect and clean whole pitted dates to offer to customers who want a safe and high quality product for wholesale or retail packing.
- Our diced dates and chopped paste are usually dressed in rice flour (Gluten free) to keep the product free flowing. If required we can dress the diced dates in other coatings, such as sugar which is used in bakery, or sticky toffee puddings.
