Terasperse® 2250

1 of 8 products in this brand
Terasperse® 2250 - An aid in pigment wetting and dispersion that reduces the formation of craters, fisheyes, pinholes and orange peel in water-based coatings and inks and promote flow and leveling. Because of its versatility, Terasperse® 2250 can be used in place of some surfactants and wetting agents in the formulation, particularly those that may be water-sensitive, and in applications where substrate wetting and adhesion is important.

Functions: Dispersant, Wetting Agent

End Uses: Waterborne Coating

Compatible Polymers & Resins: Acrylics, Alkyds, Epoxies (EP), Polyesters, Polyurethanes (PU)

Features & Benefits

Product Highlights
  • Outstanding grinding aid for both organic and inorganic pigments in water-based systems.
  • Excellent color and gloss stability on aging of dispersions.
  • Compatible with a wide variety of water-reducible and water-based resins.
  • Good rheology profile at high pigment loadings and high pigment-to-binder ratio.

Applications & Uses

Coating Type
Recommended Applications

Terasperse® 2250 contributes to a smooth film in water-based latex systems, urethanes, water-reducible and water-dispersible alkyd and polyester formulations for both air-dry and baking applications, as well as water-based epoxy-amine systems. Terasperse® 2250 is also recommended for water-based flexo ink applications to improve appearance.

Terasperse® 2250 through its well-balanced surface-active functionality provides an excellent combination of hydrophilic and hydrophobic attributes, allowing the formulator to optimize the dispersion of almost all pigments and extenders, including such difficult-todisperse pigments as phthalo blue, phthalo green and carbon black. The product reduces surface tension and produces effective, efficient pigment wetting characteristics for both organic and inorganic pigments, including organic reds and red iron oxides.

Recommended Use Levels

For maximum effectiveness in dispersing pigments, Terasperse® 2250 should be added to the mill base in the range of 5% to 9% by total weight, depending on the pigments used and other dispersants and vehicles utilized. When used as the sole grinding resin in mill bases, Terasperse® 2250 is often used in the range of 5% to 12% based on total weight. The formulator should evaluate in each system and with each pigment the optimum amount to use and the effect on the properties and performance of the final formulation.

Compatibility

Terasperse® 2250 is designed to aid in pigment wetting and dispersion, and reduce the formation of craters, fisheyes, pinholes and orange peel in water-based coatings and inks and promote flow and leveling. Because of its versatility, Terasperse® 2250 can be used in place of some surfactants and wetting agents in the formulation, particularly those that may be water-sensitive, and in applications where substrate wetting and adhesion is important.

Terasperse® 2250 acts as a high-performance grinding vehicle for both organic and inorganic pigments for a wide variety of water-based systems, including urethanes, alkyds, acrylics, polyesters and epoxies. Dispersions based on Terasperse® 2250 offer the benefits of stability with high pigment/binder ratios, compatibility with a wide variety of resins, and a lower level of grinding resin with both efficiency and formulating flexibility.
