Use only as directed.

Compatibility

MEOTHRIN can be used as a tank mix with ELSAN 500EC (Reg. No. L 3303) and SMITE (Reg. No. L6011).

Do not combine MEOTHRIN in the spray tank with other chemicals unless your prior use has shown the combination physically compatible and non-injurious under your conditions of use.

Mixing Instructions

pH of the spray water

The efficacy of MEOTHRIN may be reduced by very hard water (> 1 000 p.p.m solutes) and by water with a high pH value.

When MEOTHRIN is used, the optimal efficacy thereof will be obtained in water of pH 4,5 - 5,5. Water of a higher or lower pH than 4,5 - 5,5 should be buffered to pH 4,5 - 5,5 by using Curabuff (Reg. No. L 4731).

Where Curabuff is used to adjust the pH of the water the Curabuff must be mixed with the total volume of water required for that particular tank mixture before adding the MEOTHRIN.

Use the spray mixture without delay and do not allow to stand for prolonged periods, e.g. overnight.

a) AERIAL APPLICATION:

Aerial application of MEOTHRIN may only be done by a registered Aerial Application Operator using a correctly calibrated, registered aircraft according to the instructions of SABS Code 0118 (Aerial Application of Agricultural Pesticides). Ensure that the spray mixture is distributed evenly over the target area and that the loss of spray material during application is restricted to a minimum. It is therefore essential that  the following criteria be met:

    • Volume: A spray mixture volume of 30 liters per hectare is recommended.  As  this product has not been evaluated at a reduced volume rate, the registration holder cannot guarantee efficacy, or be held responsible for any adverse effects if this product is applied aerially at a lower volume rate than recommended above.
    • Droplet coverage: 30 to 40 droplets per cm² must be recovered at the target  area.
    • Droplet size: A droplet spectrum with a VMD of 250 to 280 microns is recommended. Limit the production of fine droplets less than 150 microns (high drift and evaporation potential) to a minimum.
    • Flying height: Maintain the height of the spray boom at 3 to 4 meters above the target. Do not spray when aircraft dives, is in a climb or when banking
    • Use suitable atomising equipment that will produce the desired droplet size and coverage, but which will ensure the minimum loss of product. The spraying system must produce a droplet spectrum with the lowest possible Relative Span.
    • Position all the atomisers within the inner 60 to 75 % of the wingspan to prevent droplets from entering the wingtip vortices.
    • The difference in temperature between the wet and dry bulb thermometers, of a whirling hygrometer, should not exceed 8°C.
    • Stop spraying if the wind speed exceeds 15 km/h.
    • Stop spraying under turbulent, unstable and dry conditions during the heat of the day.
    • Spraying under temperature inversion conditions (spraying in or above the inversion layer) and/or high humidity conditions (relative humidity 80 % and above) may lead to the following:
  1. reduced efficacy due to suspension and evaporation of small droplets in the air (inadequate coverage).
  2. damage to other sensitive crops and/or non-target areas through drifting of the suspended spray cloud away from the target field.
    • Ensure that the Aerial Spray Operator knows exactly which fields to spray.
    • Obtain an assurance from the Aerial Spray Operator that the above requirements will be met and that relevant data will be compiled in a logbook and kept for future reference.

RED SPIDER MITE CONTROL

MEOTHRIN IS A CONTACT POISON therefore Red spider mite control is dependant on thorough under leaf coverage. Thorough application is necessary to obtain good coverage.

COTTON

MEOTHRIN IS ONLY TO BE APPLIED IN THE PERIOD FROM FIRST FLOWERING TO START OF BOLLBURST (FROM 12 TO 20 WEEKS AFTER PLANT EMERGENCE).

SPRAYING ACCORDING TO RED SPIDER MITE SCOUTING

Check 48 plants selected at random in a 1 to 15 ha field, weekly from 8 weeks after plant emergence.

8 to 12 Weeks after plant emergence (First buds to flowering).

Use any other registered selective or non-organophosphate miticide.

Apply spot sprays where necessary. The first full cover spray should be carried out when the population index value reaches the 0,5 level.

12 to 20 Weeks after plant emergence (First flowering to start of Bollburst).

Use MEOTHRIN when any obvious rise in the population index value is observed. Control must be aimed at keeping the population index value under 2 up to and including the boll burst stage, or 20 weeks after plant emergence, if boll burst occurs earlier.

Aerial application

  1. 250 ml / ha for plants smaller than 60cm.

  1. 500 ml / ha for plants taller than 60cm.

Ground application

250 ml /100ℓ of water

Aerial application

APPLY IN 30 - 45 LITER OF WATER PER HECTARE. APPLICATION IN LESS WATER PER HECTARE WILL NOT BE SUCCESSFUL.

Repeat when necessary.

Ground application

For  plants  smaller  than  60   cm

apply 100ℓ spray mixture/ha. For plants  taller  than  60  cm  apply

200ℓ spray mixture/ha. This application will also suppress Africa (American) bollworm. Repeat when necessary.

ROSES

Red spider mite

High                       volume application

100 ml / 100 ℓ of water

High volume application

Apply as a high volume application as soon as infestation is noticed. Spray plants thoroughly (to run-off) and ensure good coverage. Repeat applications at weekly intervals if necessary.

TOMATOES

Red spider mite

30    -   50ml    /        100ℓ water

or

30ml + 30ml SMITE / 100ℓ water

Apply as a full cover spray at first sign of infestation. A repeat application may be necessary 10

- 14 days later.

Apply the higher dosage to an established infestation.

Apply as a full cover application as soon as the pest is noticed. Please refer to the SMITE label to understand the mode of action of the product.

SMITE has a longer residual action against the pest than MEOTHRIN and a repeat application within 10 days may not be required.

However, additional applications with an acaricide later in the production season may be required.

30 – 50ml + 100mℓ ELSAN

500EC / 100ℓ water

Apply at 90 - 100 % petal fall as a SINGLE medium cover spray to wet foliage canopy to point of run-off. Dosage of MEOTHRIN is dependent on severity of anticipated thrip infestation. Use the higher dosage rate when severe infestation is anticipated. (This can be assessed either by use of fluorescent yellow traps or by the level of thrip activity on out of season fruit and spring growth flush). Keep trees under observation. If thrips reinfestation occurs apply a registered thripicide as required.

Will suppress Psylla and control the following if present at the time of application:                                  Africa (American) bollworm, Red mite, Red spider mite, Lowveld mite and Bud mite. Subsequent build up of numbers of the above mentioned mite species will be suppressed.

The addition of ELSAN 500EC will not necessarily increase the thrip control, but will suppress red scale crawlers present at the time

of application.

NOTE

Apply the MEOTHRIN or MEOTHRIN + ELSAN 500EC treatments only to orchards in which red scale is under commercial control and such control is being maintained with one or more preventive spray treatments i.e., treatments applied before scale reach the new crop. Do not apply if previous season’s crop is still on the trees.

CITRUS (continued)

False codling moth larvae

30mℓ/100ℓ water

Apply as a medium cover spray 4 – 5 weeks prior to the intended date of harvest.  If  the application is done earlier, or the fruit are not thoroughly wetted, fruit drop and/or damage to fruit may occur shortly before harvest.

This application will also control citrus red mite, red spider mite, Lowveld mite and bud mite if they are present at the time of application.

NOTE

This application should only be done on orchards in which red scale is under commercial control at the intended time of application. In these orchards, it is recommended that a preventive spray program for the control of red scale (e.g. Nemesis 100EC, registration number L6378) and mealybug be implemented the following season.

Do not apply in orchards where red scale is not under commercial control at the intended time of application.
