Directions For Use

USE ONLY AS DIRECTED.

Time Of Application
  • Apply when wind conditions will not cause excessive spray drift.
  • PoMaxa™ should be applied during warm, dry weather, preferably during mid-morning when moisture or dew has had time to evaporate.
  • Delay applying of PoMaxa™ after rain until flower parts and leaves are free of surface droplets. Application should be made only when a 6-hour rain free period is expected. If rain falls within 6 hours of application reduced response should be anticipated. Do not re-spray in the event of rain falling within 6 hours of application.
  • Fruit thinning results will be best, when the daytime temperature will be between 20 and 27 °C for the following three days after application. Cold weather (<15 °C) is unfavorable for fruit thinning and temperatures above 27 °C may result in over thinning or “flagging” of leaves. Do not apply if temperatures are expected to exceed 30 °C.
Mixing Instructions

SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE, REPLACE CAP AFTER POURING.

3Fill a clean spray tank half-filled with water and engage the agitator. Add the required amount of PoMaxa™. Continue to agitate while bringing the total volume of water to the required level to ensure thorough mixing before application.

If PoMaxa™ is to be tank mixed with MaxCel®, first mix the MaxCel® thoroughly before adding the PoMaxa™. No surfactant is required.

Product performs best at water pH between 5 and 7; do not exceed pH of 8.5. Use the PoMaxa™ spray solution within 24 hours of mixing.

SPRAY VOLUME PER HECTAR

Apply PoMaxa™ as a HV (high volume) spray in sufficient amount of water to ensure thorough coverage without excessive run-off. High volume spray = 80% of TRV at full leaf coverage. Use calibrated spray equipment to ensure uniform coverage of leaves and fruit. Refer also to Notes / Thinning of apples.

CONSULT THE TECHNICAL ADVISOR OF YOUR POMAXA™ DISTRIBUTOR. APPLY THE POMAXA™ SPRAY MIX AS A UNIFORM FINE MIST SPRAY, DIRECTING 85 % OF THE SPRAY TO THE UPPER 2/3 OF THE TREE.

REMARKS

APPLES

EASY-TO-THIN CULTIVARS,

e.g., Granny Smith, standard red cultivars and young, vigorous Royal Gala types

Chemical thinning of fruit

16 ml

Apply once as a full cover spray in the period between petal fall and a maximum 5 mm fruit diameter. Use on “Granny Smith” only under expert guidance and only if conditions do not favor fruit thinning, otherwise over thinning might result. On all of these types, PoMaxa™ must not be combined with, or sprayed in a program

with other thinning remedies.

DIFFICULT-TO-THIN CULTIVARS,

e.g., Red spur types, Braeburn, Cripps’ Red, Cripps’ Pink, full-bearing Royal Gala types, Golden

Delicious & Fuji types

Chemical thinning of fruit

16 ml

Apply once as a full cover spray in the period between petal fall and a maximum 5 mm fruit diameter. Follow this with an application of MaxCel® (Reg. No. L7876) at 8-12 mm fruit diameter. Refer also to Notes / Thinning of apples.

As an alternative to the above program, apply a tank-mixture of PoMaxa™ and MaxCel® once as a full cover spray in the period between petal fall and 12 mm fruit diameter. Refer also to Notes/

Thinning of apples.

NOTES / THINNING OF APPLES

  • Do not apply PoMaxa™ as a tank mix in combination with pesticides, with the exception of DiPel® DF, other growth regulators with the exception of MaxCel®, or plant nutrients.
  • TANK MIXING WITH MAXCEL®: The addition of MaxCel® at the recommended rates may increase the amount of thinning. Water volume is according to the recommendation for MaxCel®: 40% of TRV. The dosage for both MaxCel® and PoMaxa™ is according to the recommended concentration per 100 L of water. Do not increase the concentration of PoMaxa™. Apply MaxCel® at 750 ml/100 l water between petal drop and 5 mm fruit size on very hard-to-thin varieties e.g. Fuji and Cripps Red. Apply MaxCel® at 500 -750 ml/100 l water at 8-12 mm fruit size on hard-to-thin varieties e.g. Golden Delicious and Royal Gala.
  • Use properly calibrated spray equipment that ensures uniform and complete coverage of all foliage and blossoms.
  • PoMaxa™ applications at too high rates or too late timings (> 12 mm fruitlet diameter) may cause fruit abnormalities, like “pigmy” fruit on susceptible varieties.
  • Apple tree reaction to chemical fruit thinners is dependent on many interacting variables such as the degree of flowering and fruit set, timing of applications, environmental conditions, cultivar, rootstock, tree age, tree shape, nutrition, size of previous crop, the use of other thinning agents and the chemical rest breaking program used. Local knowledge is essential if the desired result is to be attained. Seek expert advice before using PoMaxa™ and MaxCel® for the first time to thin apples.

Warnings

Store in a cool dry place and out of reach of children, uninformed persons and animals. Harmful if swallowed.

May cause eye irritation. In case of contact with eyes, flush with plenty of water and get medical attention.

May cause drying effect of skin. In case of skin contact, wash immediately with soap and plenty of water and remove contaminated clothes.

May cause damage to other crops.

Although PoMaxa™ is regarded as crop-safe on most important cultivars, this does not mean that a more sensitive cultivar might not be commercialized in the future. Where a new cultivar is encountered, large areas should not be sprayed without prior testing of PoMaxa™ on that cultivar.

THIS REMEDY HAS BEEN EXTENSIVELY TESTED UNDER A LARGE VARIETY OF CONDITIONS. THE REGISTRATION HOLDER DOES NOT WARRANT THAT IT WILL BE EFFICACIOUS UNDER ALL

CONDITIONS BECAUSE THE ACTION AND EFFECT THEREOF MAY BE AFFECTED BY FACTORS SUCH AS ABNORMAL CLIMATIC, SOIL AND STORAGE CONDITIONS, QUALITY OF DILUTION WATER, COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES NOT INDICATED ON THE LABEL AS WELL AS BY THE METHOD, TIME AND ACCURACY OF THE APPLICATION. THE REGISTRATION HOLDER FURTHER MORE DOES NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE TO CROPS AND VEGETATION, THE ENVIRONMENT OR HARM TO MAN OR ANIMAL OR FOR LACK OF PERFORMANCE OF THE REMEDY CONCERNED DUE TO FAILURE OF THE USER TO FOLLOW THE LABEL INSTRUCTIONS OR TO THE OCCURRENCE OF CONDITIONS WHICH COULD NOT HAVE BEEN FORESEEN IN TERMS OF THE REGISTRATION. CONSULT THE SUPPLIER IN THE EVENT OF ANY UNCERTAINTY.

Precautions
  • Avoid intake or inhaling of liquid or spray mist. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.
  • Wash contaminated clothing daily.
  • Wash with soap and water after skin contact. In case of eye contact, wash with running water. Do not contaminate rivers, dams and water sources.
  • Avoid spray drift onto other crops.
  • Prevent contamination of food, feeds, drinking water and eating utensils.
  • Rinse empty container three times with a volume of water equal to a minimum of 10 % of that of the container. Add the rinsings to the contents of the spray tank before destroying the container in the prescribed manner.
  • Do not re-use empty container but destroy by flattening and perforation.
