Formulation Guidelines

• Use level: 1-10%
• Suggested final formulation pH: 3.5 – 8.5
• Add to water phase prior to emulsification
• Use of carbomer thickener not recommended
• No sensitivity to homogenizer or high agitation mixing
• Not temperature sensitive
• Ensure it is completely solubilized before continuing the formula.
• When using a polymer to thicken, dissolve the caffeine prior to adding polymer
• This product my contribute to overall salts in the system
• Not recommended for use in anhydrous products

Technical Information

Caffeine is stabilized and able to be used at high use levels without recrystallization, 50% active. The solubilization is formed by an “oligomer complex”. Oligomer complex technology utilizes a highly hydrophilic polymer (dextrin) to encapsulate the active. Below is the schematic of the encapsulation:

• Water solutions were made with Biogenic Caffeine-210
• pH was adjusted to 3.5, 5.0, 7.0, and 8.5
• Testing was conducted at: 4°C, 25°C, 45°C and 50°C
• Color/pH monitored for 3 months
