    Product Highlights

The physiological pH of human skin is slightly acidic, on average pH 5.5 providing additional protection against microorganisms. The bath, in addition to being a moment of relaxation and relaxation, is important for the hygiene and health of the skin, eliminating irritating substances such as saliva, urine, feces, secretions and enzymes. However, the use of isolated water in the bath is ineffective for efficient cleaning as it does not remove oily substances such as sebum. Therefore, to properly clean the skin in the bath, we use products that can remove these dirt and residues accumulated throughout the day, these products are called soaps or soaps. The big problem is that conventional soaps are obtained through a fat saponification process that generates a detergent product, with an alkaline pH between 9 and 10. A pH above 7, 5 in the skin is already capable of causing the skin barrier to collapse. And even products with label expressions such as “neutral pH”, “dermatologically tested” and “balanced pH” often have pH above ideal.

This pH difference between conventional soaps and the skin damages the skin's lipid barrier, predisposing to water loss, with consequent dryness and irritation, which can be very harmful, especially for very sensitive skin (baby's skin, for example ), skin that has some imbalance, such as skin with rosacea and dermatitis or skin sensitized by some esthetic procedure such as peelings, lasers, etc. In addition, changing the skin's natural pH harms the resident microbiota, which can lead to acneiform infectious processes.

    What is a Syndet?

The term “syndet” derives from the combination of “synthetic” and “detergent” (synthetic detergent). Technically, these detergents have an affinity for oil and are able to interact with dirt on the skin, which is made up of lipids, which are then removed by water. The detergents used in these cleansing gels or bars are surfactants and are intended to be less aggressive to the skin. Other substances that can be found in syndets are emulsifiers, humectants and preservatives. These products can be used as soap substitutes as they promote a gentler cleaning, with less chance of altering the pH and barrier function.

Syndet soaps can have up to 10% detergent, their pH is more acidic - between 4.0 and 7.0 - which would be ideal to preserve skin protection, unlike conventional soaps, which are alkaline, and therefore harm the lipid barrier of the skin.

According to the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics (SBP) in its Consensus for Skin Care for the Newborn, this increase in pH (more alkaline) dries out the skin and leads to irritation, which is why syndet has also been used as a healthier alternative for the care of the skin of babies.
