Quintis Indian Sandalwood Chips are used in Incense, Ayurveda, and scented water/hydrosol production. Known for its calming properties, sandalwood has been used for centuries in different cultures. Pure Indian sandalwood chips retain the aromatic, woody scent that sandalwood is known for. Chips are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to treat a range of ailments. They are also used in religious practices: Sandalwood is used as incense for worship and meditation in Buddhism and is believed to elevate a worshiper’s spiritual awareness and bring them close to Buddha. In Hindu and Jain traditions, sandalwood paste is applied to the body for purification, and to cleanse ceremonial idols and statues.

  • TCM: A system of medicine dating back over 23 centuries, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used to prevent and heal diseases and is considered one of the world’s oldest medical systems. Known as Tan Xiang, sandalwood has been a part of TCM practices for thousands of years however, according to the Chinese Pharmacopeia, only Indian sandalwood (Santalum album) is permissible for use in formulations. Sandalwood is used for conditions such as skin diseases, acne, dysentery, gonorrhea, anxiety, cystitis, fatigue, frigidity, impotence, nervous tension, eczema, stomachache, vomiting, and stress. Indian Sandalwood has also been found to be particularly effective in regulating Qi flow (vital energy), warming to harmonize the stomach and eliminate pain.6 Quintis offers a range of sustainable, certified, natural Indian sandalwood products. Typically, logs are purchased whole and TCM practitioners create their own chips or powder to be added into blends or tea. We are proud to offer Indian sandalwood products which meet the strict Chinese Pharmacopeia standards for Traditional Chinese Medicine. Used to remove negative energy, to protect, and to heal. Sandalwood is believed to enhance the flow of Qi calm Shen throughout the body.
  • Incense: Known as Chandana in India, sandalwood has been used in several religious practices for centuries in the form of carvings and applied to the body for purification purposes. When Buddha passed away in 543BC, it is said that his body was cremated on a bed of sandalwood, enhancing the well-known belief that sandalwood elevates the user’s spirituality. In recent times yoga and meditation have introduced incense culture to the Western world where sandalwood, together with other natural herbs, is burnt as incense to elevate and encourage holistic healing. Using our Indian sandalwood powder, pastes are applied to the body, and incense sticks are able to be rolled; we can create powder in the particle size best suited to your needs. Logs can be used to create carvings and our wood chips are also able to be customized depending on your requirements.
